I am almost ready with my BU32 Turbine using Ali's Pro conversion and Tam's retracts. The Pro conversion simply fantastic with a superb quality. The manual is great but I will prefer more pictures/diagrams and less words
Tam's gear and breaks very well done too. Here are some pictures....

Gonzalo

use a fod screen , these little compressors are easy damaged.
finished mine just waiting for the weather to clear up

FOD screen on the small engine...... need to be tested how much power lost vs. how much it suck FOD on the runway.
My experience is not enough sucking to pick FOD to had screen.
Just 2 cent worth...and you know I do make FOD screen.

Gonzalo, good to hear the conversion has gone well, I'll take on board your comments on the manual (words v pictures)

One observation, you might need to spin you P20 over 180 degrees to get the glow plug at the top when the Habu is on its legs, think this makes starting more reliable but certainly the JC manual suggests it. There is room.

My plug is on the bottom and 50+ starts and flights have been faultless....On Kero with a burner it is better to have it on top, with gas it does not matter.

i have no loss , a compressor change costs 350 euro.
a fod 8 usd.
i m not worried that the turbine sucks it up , i am more worried about lose grass , ans stones flipped up by the front wheel/

Guys,

Thank you for all the feedback! I can certainly rotate the engine... but I saw Dave having no issue in that way. I would love to install the FOD screen but who has it in the US for sale? I eventhought of making mine as I have access to some nice tooling but I rather buy one rather than spending a day building one. I would love to install the mine kero start but again who has them in stock here in the US.

This is such a cute little project and a true miniature jet with a spirit of a Bandit! I can wait to try it!

Can't you put some mesh on the air intakes instead of on the turbine?

I have never seen a gas starting turbine with an issue on starting angle, one of the needles is always in the location of the glow plug. I had to go flying this PM to test fly a customers Hawk and with it being a short visit (mothers day!) I took the Habu 32's EDF and Turbine. Perfect sort of flying trip for these mini jets, only prep is putting in a Li-Po or filling the small tank. Even with my micro OBGT I get three starts.

Mike,

Thought I would answer your question as I did the conversion.
When I made the turbine mounting plates, which are in the kits being made I opted to make them removable, the two screws I used to secure each of the new mounts to the original wooden rails supplied were too far inside the hatch opening to get a ball driver on them. I opted to make two holes directly above each screw head in the fuselage, as the holes were a little of an eyesore I made a small plate, the one you see, to cover these holes up.
After fitting the new plates I decided the best route was to glue them in anyway so on your model you will not need to do this (unless you decided to make the mounts removable which is for those requiring to convert back to EDF at a later date).
The little thin aluminium plates you see are heat shields, did not know if they are actually required but wanted to protect the plastic snakes which feed back from the elevators - these pass close to the gap between the turbine nozzle and the pipe bell-mouth. The plates are held under the turbine strap fixings and mounting plate.

Hope that helps.

From the vertical...it works either way inverted or upright (even though they talk about top dead centre) That was produced 10 years ago for the original P-80.

OK Guys! almost done with the installation! I am having a problem not been able to fail safe the turbine..... I don't know why???.... did the 75% as I do with all my Jetcat turbines and no luck! I dont see the fail safe symbol when I turn off the transmiter. Maybe is too late and is time to stop.

Here are some pictures of the installation.... so cute!!! I will tint the canopy lite blue!

well even the Keroplug fits in the upright position..
there are a few who have similair problems in starting the p-20 on gas.
fun thing is that on kero every start was succesfull.
now saying that , the habu needs with your Proset some weight in the nose.
i used 5 cell enelope nimh , and for the turbine a 2200 lipo.
i get 6 starts out of it.

got to a wallmart and get a tea strainer , small one .
cut away all that sticks out , make a hole in the center.
use a old inner tire from a bicycle , cut a round piece out of it pull it around the starter.

Not as much as getting a stone through the compressor.

Did you do a Learn-RC after reducing the throws on your throttle channel? You could also try going to 50%.

Guys, I finally got the fail safe running. I need it to bind not to 100% but to a150% then go down to 75% learn ECU and ...... perfectly running!
I tint the canopy to blue and install Tam retracts with the brakes.

Sooooooo cute!

Nice one Gonzalo Does this mean your going to start the A10 now? Feeling a bit lonely on the A10 thread...

Cheers
