Ran the MG for the first time today, really windy and choppy but she handled beautiful, no wah - wah or bounce (got the kintec V2 offset rudder) and managed to do my first blowover running into the wind. It was atlow speed really I just pulled the trigger off a wave into the wind and she's bottom side up.. dang! No damage at all. Using my digital thermometer (finger) I checked temps, basically cold / warm at most so all is good.

So now the quest for more speed starts,

If I buy a 180 amp ESC to run 5 cells. What cells to I buy ?

Presently I'm running 4S. I havetwo Hyperion G3 7.4v(2S)35C 5400mah andtwo Thunder Power 7.4v(2S) 45C 6500mah batteries (IE a set of 4S Hyperion and another set of Thunder Power 4S)

I presume I buy matching 3S batteries

EG; Hyperion G3 11.1v 3S 35C 5400mah and TP 11.1v 3S 45C 6500mah and run these in series. IE: 2S pack on one side and 3S pack on other side of the boat.

Realise this is a newb question but would like to know for sure.

cheers,

Gordie.

Yep..Just put a 2s on one side and 3s on the other..Disable the bec and run a external RX pack..I like to put the RX pack on the 2s side to help balance out ride..One side will be lower in the water do to the 3s being heavier than the 2s..Put the 3s on the right side since you have the Kinteic offset and it will carve right hand turns unbelievably! With the Kinetic offset installed,It likes right hand turns better than left anyway..

You better put a canopy on order now or be unhappy after your cracks. The canopies are not in stock and they will be some time!!!

Ordered myself up a fiberglass canopy from Tiqueman, on OSE. Should be here by the end of the week. First one he pulled from the production mold[8D].

I cracked in inside of a sponson when I hit a buye a while back so she's in need of repair anyways. Nothing bad, just a crack along the inside seam. So I'm going to repair that and prime the whole boat white and run it that way until I come up with a new race team theme. Right now I'm leaning in towards the silver Amsoil theme. I'll take pictures of the canopy when it gets here.

I also have an extra, brand new, 1800 kv Castle outrunner like the one that's in my Geico if anyone is intrested. It flings a x445 prop as easy as it does a x440 on 2, 2S 20c packs. I have no doubt it will spin a x447 and still be under propped. Its compatible with the stock ESC too..

Those are nice motors.

I've also ordered a canopy from Scott on OSE. You know me by Ray Schrauwen.

Guys,

In terms of speed upgrades, what's the best option between running 5S batteries verses a higher kV motor and retain 4S. Both would require I buy a new ESC.

So saying I buy a Seaking 180 ESC, is there any difference betwen keeping the stock motor and running 5S, or retaining my 4S batteries and changing out the motor for say a leopard 4074 at 1774kV. It seems to me both systems would add about 20% to the prop revs.

I think the new motor would possibly be cheaper in the long run 'cos adding 3S batteries to go with my 2S is pretty expensive.

Is there any advantage with stock motor on 5S versesa 1800kV motor on 4S both would berunning through a 180amp ESC?.

Also with a 180 amp ESC is it still recommended to disable the BEC when running 5S?

Cheers,

Gordie.

Gordie, if speed is what you're after, I installed a Castle 1512 2650 kn in mine. Lets just say it's not slow Look back a few pages and you will see videos of it. Expect to run 2, 4S packs in parallel though or your run times will suck. The UL1 motor is a great option but I know a few people who have had them and they don't last very long. Other than that you can get a Leopard 3674 2650 which can be found here[link]http://www.hobbypartz.com/leopard.html[/link] This way you can use a 36mm cooling sleeve as they don't make one for the Castle 2650 that is a direct fit.

I can dumb the high RPM motor down by lowering the motor timing. At 2* of timing its about as fast as an 1800kv motor. At 22* of timing it will travel back in time, lol!

Got the Geico wet yesterday. Threw on a 48mm Grouper carbon prop to see how it went. Went well, I think[8D]

Just received my Miss Geico today, the thing looks awesome and I can't wait to get it into the water this weekend when we go camping. My only problem is that the ESC is programmed for only Ni-Mh and all I have is LiPo's and the program cards are all on back order. Anybody know what can happen if I run the ESC as programmed with the LiPo's, as far as I know I just have to be careful not to run the LiPo's too low?
