I've never seen one personally but it sure sounds like a neat idea.
Try this link and mayby talk to them about it.

Hobby Lobby has one. Here is the link.

Hello everyone,
Okay I have been very busy reading and i am now up to page 260. But I could not wait any more and I got into my kit and started looking at things. Please see the attached picture and tell me your thoughts. I have the "crutch top" laying on the plans, but it does not fit correctly, it is about 1/8" SHORT (top left of photo). Now this will affect the angle of the engine and it will make the incidence wrong. The plans call for 3 degrees but this will increase the incidence, a lot. How would you handle this problem? Would you just make another "crutch top" or would you have Top-Flite send you another one that is correct?

Thanks in advance,

John, it looks to me like you need to turn this over.

Heritageman,

Thank you for the reply and I wish it was as easy as you say. But the "crutch top" fits the plans in 3 of the 4 corners and if you turn it over, then two of the corners would be incorrect as one would be two big and the other would be too small. This is not a square piece and it was not cut square for a reason, it gives you the 3 degrees of angle. In the picture, the top left is suppose to be smaller than the bottom left. But the top left in the picture, is smaller than the plans are. I hope I did not confuse anyone, other than myself.

Thanks,

Checked my notes from my build. If the notches all line up with the sides, I would build it. you can adajust the fire wall later. One thing that might help when fitting these parts use a tiny dab of hot melt glue to hold things and check alinement. see page 23 steps 7 thru 10and make sure you follow the note at the bottem of the page.

Hope this helps

Bob,

Thanks for your information, I do remember someone else had this same problem, but after reading 260 page, I did not remember who had the same problem and what the cure was. I will go and read page 23, 7-10, right now.

I remember that many people increase their firewall thickness, can someone tell me what size firewall would be best, I will be using a G62 like most people.

Thanks in advance,

I think pretty much everyone had the same problem. I cut a new one to fit the plans. You can always shim the engine later if you have to.

I had the same problem . I got Top flight to send me new parts but they were just as wrong as the ones I had So I made me a 3/4 inch fire wall out of cabnet grade ply and made it fit to the correct angle . I also added tri stock to add strength and dowels to pin the fire wall into place

mrrandyman, rt3232, cimara & DaddySam,

Thank you all for the help and the advice. I did speak with Top-Flite today and they are going to send me several parts that were cut incorrect. Top-Filte told me that they would be shipped today and they would arrive in a few day. I have the time to wait as I am only checking parts and doing a mock-up of all of the parts.

On the other hand, I do have good news, I have ordered the Cowl and the oil cooler from  www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com   and they shipped the parts today. I also received a email from Iron Bay Models and they have made my sliding canopy (extra thick) and it will ship tomorrow.

So I am going back to reading and then tomorrow I will make the firewall and the crutch top.

Thanks for everyone help and advise,

Hello Jazz,
I received the CD you sent organizing a lot of this thread into word docs with pictures and I can't thank you enough.
It makes finding information a lot easier and no waiting for the website to download the pages. I really appreciate your efforts and resulting great CD.
If anyone wants to be able to use all the stored information on this thread and find what they want without going back and forth looking for when something starts and finishes, they should ask you for a copy of the CD you made.

THANK YOU!

Thanks for the kind words Tom. I wish I could accept all of your praises, but it's really everyone participating on this thread that makes the DVD so cool-it'sa collaboration of all yourGREAT ideas and information you've sharedover the past five years! If anyone would like a copy of the DVD, please PM me so I can get your address. It does require MS Word 97 or later and aDVD reader. I'm also asking for a three dollar donation for shipping and material costs.

Is anyone else interested in obtaining an on board starter for a G62. I talked with the hobby shop that has them on their website but they say they stopped stocking them due to lack of interest. I got the impression if I could get a half dozen of them ordered they would get them. Takes about 3 to 4 weeks and cost just over $300. Dont know about you fellows but I am tired of band aids and stitches on my right fingers. I think there are adapters for other engine applications as well.   Craig #67

JazzRC,

What can I say, the DVD that you sent to me, it is a work of art and it makes it so easy to find all of the things that I need to look at, at that moment. Thank you for all of the hard work and effort that you put into the DVD. Just to let you know, there is something on the way to you.

Thanks again,

Well I am getting some paint laid down. I am doing the small peices with an airbrush and the fuse/wing will get shot at my Uncles. I would upload a picture but this site is terrible to try to upload to. Everyone has seen paint before. I am using Omni by PPG. It does come out glossy but I am flattening it out with rubbing compound for the final matte look. I like the way it is turning out. I will post something when I have substantial progress to show.

btw 70 deg here and no wind. I had to take a personal day and I am going to go fly!!!!! [8D]

see ya

JazzRC,
All I can say is W O W. I have read through the directory many time's getting info for my build. But I must have missed alot or have really bad memory, because I don't remember a fraction of what's on this DVD. Seriously, the format in which it is layed out make's finding anything super easy.
Anyone getting ready to start a new build, the DVD is a must. For that matter, anyone who want's pretty much all they could ever know about the
corsair (to build ) need's this.
I know there is a lot of people and their ideas and work to thank.
Thank You to all, and to JazzRC for putting it together like this.
Thank You!

Thanks acerc,
I'm glad you're finding the DVD helpful. And thanks to everyone participating onthis thread over the past five years. It's your sharing ofknowledge and cool ideas that makes the DVD useful.

After many months (years?) of collecting parts and information, I'm aboutready to begin mybuild. One of my goalsis to convert the Top Flite Corsair kit into a much more scale looking warbird. Yeah, Iknow- some may say that's like trying toturn a duck into a swan, but I like challenges - Quack!. I'm thinking of building a F4U-1A from the VF-17 squadron.I hope tohave some photos ofthe tail feathersto post soon.

I still have the High Flite article on Chris' plane. A real inspiration for sure.
