RE: Photos Of Trailer Interior Layout, Please Post Yours Too!!
Spent 2 days at the Yuma Air Show and Fun Fly (Friday night, Sat & Sun) and the trailer got a workout. The generator ran 2 1/2 days on about 2 1/2 gallons which was awesome. Friday night we had a Sim Night and broke out the 40" LCD and Aerofly 5.5 with the SimStick and DX8. Some guys had fun passing the sticks around. The updated BBQ cooked 30 burgers and about 35 dogs. All-in-all we had a great weekend.

Some more great ideas. I am going to be doing more to my trailer. A couple things have to happen first. 1) I have to getthe trailerdug out of the snow. 2) The temperature needs to get above about 20. Good grief, this global warming we have had in South Dakota this winter has me frozen to the marrow. Can't wait until the warmer weather. Got some parts ordered just need the weather to cooperate. When it is below 0 Iloose all drive to go out and work on the trailer. Maybe I need to install a fire place in it......

Step one almost done. Iassulted the snow piles with the shovel and the snow blower for about 45 minutes. One cold body (it was only 5 degrees) and a sore back (frigging stuff is like a block of ice)I have called it quits for today. I think I can get it hooked up and moved but there is no point for the next few days. A winter storm is headed this way they claim. Sounds like it could bring measurable snow again so I will need to jockey more snow around again. I am fast running out of places to put it all. Anyone want some? Free, haul away all you want.

Can't wait been wanting to get one for quiet awhile now!

RE: Photos Of Trailer Interior Layout, Please Post Yours Too!!
Hey Guys...I have been enjoying this thread quite a lot.....whew...it takes many evenings to read through all of it and I am not done yet either. I have a peculiar question to toss out regarding my 6' X 14' Continental, Vee nose trailer. I placed the bathroom scale under the tongue and found that I have 300 pound tongue weight. I doubt that it will damage my class 3 hitch on my Chevy Astrovan, but I thought that weight was a bit on the high side. It is a single axle trailer, and actually tows very well...no bounce and no sway. I just cant see building any nice cabinets/bench etc up front in the Vee because it would add more pounds to the already heavy tongue weight. The axle is pretty well fixed in position and would require relocating the fenders too if I decided to move the axle forward to lighten the tongue weight. It would take a huge amount of weight in the rear to offset the present tongue weight...and I dont plan on installing a big generator back there...LOL. They say this tongue weight is OK on a big diesel truck, but my little Astrovan...mighty as it is...may object to this over time. I guess I would feel lots better if the tongue was around 100 to 150 pounds or so....Does anyone have any good suggestions to reduce this tongue weight.

For a 14 ft trailer that is not too far off 10-12% of the trailer weight is ideal, your trailer is probably in the 2,200 - 2,400 lb range empty (depending on construction). If the hitch on your Astro van is a class 3 if would be rated for a max of 500# tongue weight. Check the owners manual and see what it is rated for. If you move items to the back and lighten the tongue too much the trailer becomes unstable. I had a trailer we were setuping at work with tools and at about 50mph the back started swaying so much that it just about flipped me off the road.

Thanks for the encouraging words Dave.
So I guess the tongue weight is OK as is...that is with the trailer empty.
The weight of any planes would of course be insignificant anywhere inside.....but building anything in there...like cabinets or a work bench, would perhaps make for excessive tongue weight problems if they were to be placed up forward...where guys typically place the fun things of that sort.
My latest thought is to sell this leaf spring axle trailer, and have a new trailer built with a torsion axle...and place that axle where the weight of my planned internal cabinetry would make the tongue weight reasonable and proper.

I am really jealous of you guys down in the US. Was just down in GA for a couple of weeks and saw new trailers 6x10 and 6x12 sizes for under $2000. Here in Canada they sell for over twice that. I can't even find a 5x8 for under $2000.
It's just not fair! [:@]

Well, I have been reading this post for a while now and finally I bit the bullet. Sold my 6x12 and got a brand new 7x14, but that was just too small. So now I moved up to a 8 1/2 x 18. By the end of the weekend I will have the walls painted and the floor epoxied, I hope... Here is a few pictures I just took today. This forum has been a great read and I have gotten a few good ideas, so hopefully I will use some of them lol.

Wow thats a mighty big model you have in the garage. I think you will have to have the wings off even with that huge trailer.

Yes, it is big at 32Foot wingspan and yes I sit in it. I got the trailer for it and other uses too. It will mostly be used for my R/C stuff but once in a while my Ultral-lights will get hauled in it.

Come on down and buy one. It makes for a fun road trip home breaking in a new trailer. Would Canada still get you in taxes or import fees to a point it wouldn't matter?

Yes Rotax 377 cruise at 55mph, I'm not in a hurry. After twenty years of flying R/C and with my Pitts costing around 3k I figured it was time to fly in something, so I learned how to fly and I am glad I did. I feel the experience from R/C has helped me with my flying full sized as well as flying full sized has helped me with my R/C flying skills. AS for the trailer, I hope not to buy another one again for a long time, so this one I will take my time and make it very versitile. I can even camp in it at fly-ins, I like that Idea...

Going through the formal training process and learnig the fundamentals from the cockpit really helped me also. I also was very comfortable with the controls and maneuvering right from the start because of my years flying models. I just have a small 6X8 enclosed trailer, but it is a godsend for my bigger scale planes. I can keep my Sopwith Camel together and save a ton of time at the field.

Well I have finally grabbed a few minutes of free time and the weather warmed up. Here is a little of the progress. I have installed the LED strip lights along the ceiling. I used 6 sets total for about 18 meters of lights, I say about because I had to trim the lights just a few inches. There is currently one LEDflood light in the rear but Ihave one more to add. All the lighting currently consumes about 3.5 amps of power. I have a large deep cycle battery under the counter up front. I added a battery monitor for the battery to see what the charge level is at the push of a button. Iam able to operate 3 chargers from the binding post plugs at the front. I am sure that there will be a few more additions as time and money allow
