I've been flying RC planes for 33 years and FINALLY somone designs a COOL looking radio..

I have no need for 11 channels but I will be buying one of these 11Xs very soon, simply because it looks like a Frakkin' Cylon!

I love it..

it was designed by a Japanese art student and is cutting edge Cool IMHO...

I'm 46 Years old and have been a Battlestar fan for most of that time.. I gotta have this radio!

it is different, but i dabbled with a tray on my Kraft 7C in the early 80's and after a few weeks of adapting it was definately more precise flying with thumb and forefinger.. I did so for many years...

Now i just fly thumbs again.. but have often thought I should build a tray for my current radios..

JR has made some of the best looking radios over the years until this one came along. Yes, they are housings for electronics, but when i spend the kind of money to buy a higher end radio, i want something pleasing to look at too. They missed it on this one at least IMHO, of course i am not a youngster any more either.

How it works is the prime criterion for me, the packaging is just the brainchild of marketers. You can't beat JR quality no matter how wierd the plastic shell looks. It's well done ergonomically and I wish I could build models complex enough to warrant purchasing one. My WW1 birds get along just fine on 4 or so channels................John

I haven't run right out and bought one but kinda have been warming up to the Buck Rogers look. I'm a long way from using all the fun that is in my 10X and a couple of 8103s.

After many trouble free years with my trusty 10X I was ready to go 2.4.Wanted to go 12x to keep the same feel in my hands but cost wise the 11X does most of the same sanes one channel.Mine will be here tuesday and look foward to flying with it.As far as looks go really does not matter to me-feel in my hands is most important.

I am using a Spectrum 2.4 module and antenna in mine, I think about four years now, its been flawless.

I LOVE MY 11X!!! Best damn radio i've ever had in 22 years of this hobby.

What I don't like about the new JR top end tranny is that it looks like a low end trend model... not a serious piece of equipment. The 10x had that look and feel, as stated above I've been happy but next time out I'll definately go for the Euro type flat design. I'm a thumb and fingerer myself and flying with the guys that use that type of tranny, then seeing the flexibility they have with switch layout as in, you decide what does what and where it even goes... including on top of the sticks, there's no comparision IMO. Plus there was a great deal of extra programing possibilities with the top end Graupner over the 10 even though it was basically modelled along the same platform. No, the JR loony design won't be winning my hobby money.

The facts for me are simple. I'll continue to use $200 radios until I see some reason to fly with something more expensive. I just don't get spending $600-$1,000 on a radio. My needs are simple.

Yes, tho when the cost of the aircraft approaches 2500 and then higher as many large scale model do a 200 dollar radio generates doubts.

I just don't believe that a $200 radio (for example my Airtronics/Sanwa RDS8000) is even no iota less "safe" for the model than a top of line JR radio. However, the JR radio may have top-end features that serious competitors would want/need. One example of this type of high end feature might be customizable throttle curves. I can see how this might be very useful for serious fliers. Some types of models may also require the full 8-10 channels. I strongly doubt I will ever build a model that uses more than 6 (and if fact have never used more than 4).

It's sort of like an average Joe amateur photographer thinking he NEEDS to have a top of line professional Nikon or Canon. I suppose if you've got the "spare cash" why not. But then I'd rather have a $200 radio and a Proctor kit (or a Seidel radial) than just a $1000 radio.
