Default Tornado spur gear question

My spur gear in my transmission for 2nd gear, teeth have been what looks like "chewed to flat surfaces". Sorry I cant include a pic my cameras pics are crap quality. Does anyone have an idea what could could be contributing to this? Is this an ongoing thing with Tornados? Thanks for your help.

i work with these cars all day and it doesn't seem to be a large problem. check your gear mesh and your alignment of your engine. because theis could be your problem. check on those. then get back to me!

Its awesome as hell! This is my first hobby grade rc, and I'm in love with it. LOL I'm glad I got a Redcat instead of spending double on a Traxxxas. (no offense to Traxxas fans) I've always wanted one since I was little, and now I know what I've been missing. I still wish I had my old Tyco RC Hammer, that thing was the best toy grade RC I ever owned. I'm thinking of getting a brushless next, or maybe even go 1/8 nitro. Not sure yet. The only thing is about the Tornado is it bounces around alot, so my next RC will probably be a truck.

things that can cause a spur gear to strip:

extreme drivetrain shock. like landing with the throttle wide open, or hitting the lip of pavement at high speed. things that make the wheels slow down dramatically while the motor is at high revs. motor keeps spinning, spur gear does not.

or, the motor moves slightly. if the screws that hold the motor mount are not tight enough, a jump can move the motor......thus making the spur gear mesh larger than it should be.

spur gears will strip, but it doesnt happen all that often on a s30 that is maintianed(check those screws and gear mesh when cleaning)

Thanks for the info man. I recently wrecked it, so that probably shifted the motor. When I checked after I wrecked it, 2nd gear was fine for 2 tanks, then 3rd tank 2nd gear teeth chewed flat. When I replace the gears, do I just unscrew the 4 screws on the bottom of the aluminum skid plate, and drive cup? Or is there more stuff I have to take off to get to pull my spur gears out?
