Extreme Flight 2 Meter Vanquish On it's Way

RE: Extreme Flight 2 Meter Vanquish On it's Way
Interesting but depressing discussion. I always wondered how the cost of an ARF would be broken down in terms of materials, labor, shipping and profit. I know that Tower had some of their Kaos ARF built in Peru where labor is inexpensive but even that did not last (I was born and raised there). That made me wonder how shipping/labor costs stack up agains each other. At any rate, I can't wait for the Vanquish to be finally available. I think it will be my step up airplane after the Angel.

Not sure what people will do when the price of labor in China matches the rest of the world. . .

I work in manufacturing in the U.S. Some say it is making a comeback. In our case, we make a product that is regulated by FDA, OSHA, and NIOSH. It is pretty hard to jump through all of those hoops when your factory is in China, and for niche products like that, American made becomes more economicaly viable.

I know that we are all big on weight here but something ELSE to consider....
We talk about how this helps get the new person interested in pattern. We talk about how cheaper aircraft make flying pattern more affordable. All of this is true and so much more. I realize that even some Masters guys and FAI will be flying these airplanes but I also think this is what we as a pattern community will point to when we look to suggest something "bigger" to a potential new pattern flier and even the old pattern flier that wants to get back in or whatever. We talk about weight and such but this is what we all need to consider....Sportsman through Advanced do not have to meet the 5kg rule. They get a break! They get another 115grams!
Just sayin....

Except that with e-power lighter is almost always going to be better!
"Almost always" defined as "when it isn't super windy".
Wouldn't be surprising if the Vanquish and the much-rumored 2M Osiris come in well under 5kg without too much effort... and without a lot of extra bucks.

Having come from IMAC ( though only a few contest when I lived up North ) I am not really understanding why there is a weight limit to begin with.

Because there always HAS been a weight limit. It's "TRADITION!" (in my best Chaim Topol voice).
There is a VALID argument to be made though, that removing the weight limit would facilitate some HUGE airplanes, even at 2M x 2M. Span and length wouldn't increase but airframe volume, and therefore power (and cost) would increase yet again. The 14 pound 2M Biplane would ABSOLUTELY become a reality, as would the very expensive power system required to fly it.
The F3C crowd has already demonstrated FAI is willing to move the weight limit somewhat if the competitors so desire..

Folks on another site are reporting that they have been billed for their Edge 540T aircraft which were supposed to be on the same shipment. This would mean that the shipment arrived and was already un-packed.
I have yet to see any official confirmation of that however.

Not sure if it means anything, but I just recieved the Spring/Summer 2011 News Letter from Extreme Flight. It mentions a lot of models arriving in the next week, but notably absent is any mention of the Vanquish.

I have a feeling that Arch is quietly and steadily working on his Vanquish so it will be ready to fly at the Jackson, NJ event which is about 1.5 weeks away (??)[8D]
Pure speculation, of course.

I wish. Unfortunately I'm still waiting. I have been in constant contact with Extreme Flight though and I'm hoping that I will have it in my hands next week. If I do, I'll at least get it on the gear for Jackson.

Arch,
Why don't you stop by on your way home from work and pick one up?
