[8D]Tx, tx very much buddies, for your help.
Patrick, by now I choosed a new Futaba retract servo, but I think that will be and eventually option, cause I just called to my local hobby-shop and asked for the mate Corsair JockĀ“s two servos BMS option. They donĀ“t have these servos right now, but on some days they will get avaliable. By now, I preffer this retract option, cause I think is a very clever set-up if you keep on low cost, weight and continues with mech retracts. Electrics retracts options here are difficult to find, and the idea of using the same retract with two servos and maybe a robart robostruts is also very interesting. TX very much Corsair for your help.
I flew four more flights with the Futaba servo, and until know, it goes fine..., but as I said before I want to upgrade to two servos option.
Manolo.

I was wandering if any of your guys out there have installed the e-flite electric retracts in this bird if so, what modifications did you have to do and any pics would be helpful

Had the canopy off while I was fixing the "near fire" damage so I though I would take some shots of LT Oiler.

Glued the canopy back down with Super RCZ56. The bands worked well to keep it tightso the glue can dry.

[8D]I think that this is the magic of modelling this bird. To try catch something of the spirit of this warbird and what is its meaning. A fight for the mankind freedom and against the darkness, somewhat to remember a era that gone, but never must be forget,... a travel on time...

Hi,

What diameter prop would be closest to scale in appearance on this .60 sized plane? Would it have sufficient ground clearance?

Also, for those that have the OS .91 four stroke or something very close in dimensions and weight, did you have to add any weight to the nose of the model? Could it handle another 8oz of engine weight?

And is there more than 1/2" of clearance between the cowl and the valve covers with the .91?

The reason for my questions are that i'm thinking of the new OS FSa 1.55 purely for the ability to run larger props. I think it would look neat with a 4 bladed 16" or 17" prop

Scale diameter prop would be about 20 3/8 inches.

Not trying to pick on you, because a LOT of people are doing this, but when did warbirds become categorized by recommendedengine size rathar than SCALE size? This model is roughly 1/8 scale, and categorizing as such makes it much easier to determine scale sizes all parts and compentents.

Regarding a scale size 4 blade prop: on full scale warbirds: big props meant lot's of concentration and effort to keep them going straight down the runway on takeoffs, and anytime power was applied when airspeeds were relatively low. Same thing on R/C models, only you aren't in the cockpit to get the immediate sensations of that engine wanting to twist the aircraft upside down.

Point is: having a scale sized 4 blade prop may look "neat", but it also makes it more difficult to fly. Not to mention: having a heavier engine up front doesn't help either. By ALL acounts: a .91 will fly this model with all the power you will need, and can be hidden withing the cowl with room to spare.

I originally had an OS 91 4-stroke then swithced to electric but now back to the 91 cause i just cant get into the electrics as much as I have tried. To answer your question yes I did have to add nose weight but then again I like my birds a little nose heavy. I also had to have about 7 clicks of down trim for level flight it wanted to climb something fierce. Once it was trimmed out it flies like its on rails, none of the typical bad warbird characteristics. Its a good plane and I fly mine with a Master Airscrew 15x6 and it flys great with no need for more power. Hope this helps

This gets you a little closer propwise without all the added weight.

CorsairJock, your comments are taken on board.

VooDoo, the RCV 1.20 is 3oz heavier than the new OS 1.55

I've ran the numbers for the OS and shopped around for props and determined that a 15x6 or 15x8 4-blade prop will be the best choice for it.

Menz props are available locally but at $90 a piece you don't wanna buy the wrong one based on theoretical guesswork.

The new OS .95v or 1.10a might be better (and cheaper) choices.

I was thinking the same thing: those RCV engines are HEAVY for thier displacement. Able to swing big props: yes, because of 2:1 gearing effect, but there is no weight savings with.

I'm flying this bird with a gas engine zenoah 20 cc and it flies like a dream. Centre of gravity is spot on. With this engine it's a rocket and very stable (still breaking in the engine so power will still increase). Landing is smooth and no flaps needed (yet). I can recommend this engine for this bird (very reliable and always starting without any hassle).

Looks like I should have looked a little closer. I just remembered the 2:1 gearing and thought that might be a good choice.
I have a Saito 1.15 in mine with a Master Airscrew 3 blade T1490 on it. Lots of power.

I will be putting an RCV .90SP into my 1/8 scale Hellcat (64" span) and hope to swing an 18 inch three blader eventually. The largest 3 blader recommended by RCV is a 15 3/4" but several guys have reported using larger ones with no issue once the engine is broke in. If nothing else I will swing an 18" two blader which will at least give me a near scale propeller arc when the engine is running. As with most warbirds my Hellcat needs nose weight so the additional weight of the RCV is a non-issue. I'll let you guys know how it goes if you're interested.

I found the cause of the near fire today. It looks like it is my Triton jr.
The weather is finally nice so I started charging up a few batteries. Set the Triton jr. to 1350ma/11.1V and started the charge. A couple of minutes later I look over and it says it's charging at 2100ma. I thought maybe I didn't set it correctly so I stopped the charge and tried it again. Within a few seconds it jumped up to 1600ma so I shut it down. Tried it again with a NiCd pack and the same thing happened again. Within a few seconds the screen was showing over 3 times the charge rate that I had set it for. Time for a new charger!

Here is my Top Flite P-47 modified to a Razorback.Thunder Tiger 91 4 stroke with E-Gas on-board glow for power.
Pilot is Duke from Slimline. Using the Eileen nose art.Pilot who flew Eileen in WWII flew a Razorback and Bubbletop version
with the Eileen scheme.Radio is a Futaba 9C 72 mhz. When I run the receiver antennae through the antennae tube it does not
exit the fuselage. Is it ok for it to be inside the fuselage at the tail? or does it need to exit any?
here is a pic of the stick kit version I built.

Thanks
Roy

That razorback ROCKS! Do you have photos of how you did that or templates? Also where did you get the canopy. Really nice job. I had this bird, lost it to a radio problem and ordered a new one the same day. Great flying plane but I have always been partial to the razorback...

Great looking conversion Roy, nice work. The razorback looks so much better to my eye. No need for the antenna to be outside the fuselage. As long as it is extended out so that it does not cross itself anywhere you should be good to go.

here is a link to how and what I used

if you need part numbers for the wood parts let me know.
The canopy is from the Top Flite Gold Edition P-47 wood kit.perfect fit.
I think the ARF is based from the kit version and built as a bubbletop because
razorback spine involves a little more work.
