Never. Anyway, my understanding on the 14MZ was the Windows OS is for the programming side of things and that if it did BSOD the RF would not be affected?
Being an iPhone user I'm getting a little tired now of the sluggish response of my TX screen and the pressure I need to apply. If the 18MZ has a screen that reacts as well as an iphone for example then it will be great and I'm definitely having one.
Rgds,
Mark

RE: Futaba 18MZ first showing....
I heard (strictly a rumour) that it was no longer Windows CE.
what is interesting is that in all likelyhood, the production cost of this unit is less than the 14MZ. The big cost for Futaba was the software and systems development for S Bus architecture, but the hardware could be cheaper. It looks like it is all made from the 14MZ tooling.
And if they did it the way I think they did it, 18 channels is a pretty low and somewhat arbitrary number. With this S Bus architecture, the channel limit is probably driven more by the controls (sheer user complexity to set up a model) and the resulting software requirements.
I am going to let you early adopters finish up the beta software testing!!

RE: Futaba 18MZ first showing....
It is funny, when I bought my 12MZ, I did not see the big differentiation in the 14MZ that would justify the price difference between the 12 and the 14.
Now I see the same issue with the 12MZ and the 12FG (in the other direction, why buy a 12MZ)
So I would bet the 14MZ is the victim here and the 12Z will become the midline. For the 14MZ to survive, the 18MZ is going to have to cost a_bundle_to differentiate from the 14MZ.
In other words, anyone who was going to buy a 14MZ will go ahead and get an 18...UNLESS the 18 costs like twice as much.
Same problem for the 12MZ, it is hard to differentiate it from the 12FG, except in feel, fit and finish, etc. Feature wise they are almost the same.
I bet there will be a lot of good deals on low time 14MZs coming out!

That is funny - but is there any merit to it? Has anyone experienced a BSOD with their Windows powered 14MZ? I sure haven't....

That is so cool. But what they heck does one use all of the 18 channels for?

RE: Futaba 18MZ first showing....
its apparent you guys have not seen the new stuff, 18 channels is almost not enough. with thrust vectoring, on big models, canopies, smoke, speed brakes, flaps, dual elevators, dual ailerons, dual rudders, gears, canopy locks, and a tons of other things that would be great to have its own channel. This is soo typical when the old guys are just so used to what they been flying and think there is no reason to need more. And yes I am old so I can say that. I have a electric EDF jet that would use 16 channels if I didnt y harness a ton of stuff. If there was no need it would be produced. Just my opinion/experience

Bragging rights. Same guys that drive Hummers in the city. I'm waiting for the 22MZ to come out with downloadable apps, and hands free gimbals.

RE: Futaba 18MZ first showing....
It does look good but I'm going to have to do some more research before committing. One of the deciding factors for me will be their servo options. Assuming the system is compatible with the 6014 receivers then you get 14 'conventional' channels. If you want 15 you have to go to s-bus but the s-bus receivers only have 8 conventional servo sockets. Therefore, 7 of the 15 channels have to use s-bus servos or decoders and the associated hubs etc.
Usually I use JR servos on flight controls so this might not leave many sockets for throttle, jettronics valves or anything else that might need a conventional signal. I also would then need affordable s-bus servos for things like gear valves/brakes/steering etc as I would have run out of normal sockets. Time will tell just how user-friendly the system proves to be.
