"Haggelkorn" electric combat
Now that I have figured out some power systems with my Lil Satan project, time to design a modern 1/2 A combat design for electric power.
I will be posting pics and info soon. I have some cores on order and have roughly drawn the plans. THis design is based on my old "Attitudinal" design that was pretty succesful. I would like to have some of these around for demos and such to try to generate some interest. I may try to get this as an AMA article.

I have an excellent design that I have converted to AutoCAD for a 1/2A combat plane known as "Cheap Imitation" by Gene Pape and John Thompson back in the 70's that was published in Model Builder that I can share...

Look at an old .049 flying wing design called the Red Wing. Its quite large and builds light. Its a fat swept leading edge wing with TE mounted elevator.

All of the dimensions and aspects of the design are complete. The trick is always in getting the nose and tail moment correct. The trick there is make them long and trim it down until good. The weight of the motor is the key. The modern 1/2 A designs realized a benefit of sweep in the wings to lengthen the nose moment of very light engines. I like longer tail moments as well. They tend to groove thru the manuevers. Having sweep allows this to be done. This design will be a typical foam wing, with carbon arrow shaft center rib.

Interesting design. Pre-foam. Thick airfoil as well. Later on it seemed thinner airfoils were used to gain speed, but use wing area-loading to create tight turns. Modern day 1/2 A combat planes look like a .15 powered model. Mine will be a little bit smaller as I want to be able to use 2s packs.

According to the full sized plan, the distance from the TE to the CL of the elevator hinge is 3". From LE to the back of the motor cutout on the mount is 3/4". Airfoil is 1-1/16"
