Any way too put a lipo in it instead of AAs?

You don't want to do that for so many reasons. Use sanyo eneloops.

i have rechargable AAs but recharging is frequent, much more than the lipo I have in my plane/heli Tx

It's risky since it only takes 6 AA batts. this comes up to 9V (and brand new they are a little higher), while a 2S lipo is only 8.4V fully charged. you might be able to get away with it. I run 3S lipos in all my remotes that take 9 AA batts and LOVE it since it last almost forever...let us know if you figure anything out.
