Default traxxas villain ex slower this year - why?

hi

new to this forum

need suggestions

okay, i am a newer rc boat hobbyist

got a traxxas villain ex last year and the traxxas ez peak charger

wow, alot of fun, boat WAS fast each and every one of the 10 times i took it to the various ponds

near the end of last year and now the boat sounds fast, fully charged, motors, props working good {i think}, butdoesnt have the zip that it previously had

so, thru suggestions i got new 7.2 volt, 3000mah batteries and still the traxxas villain doesnt have the zip it once had

any suggestions ?

how can i get the speed back for this boat ?

should i replace the motors?

Do you have water cooling? If not the motors may have gotten hot and the magnets lost some zip. You could try a couple new motors I've seen them for under $20.
I would definately add the cooling if you don't have it, I used two pickups on the transom to cool the motors seperately.
Keep the driveline lubed and there are bushings on each end of the motors that you can give a drop of oil.
You can run 7 cell packs (8.4v) that will give you extra speed. The hump style packs will just barely fit.

I have one that I'm selling for parts. The esc does not go forward but reverse ok. Motors have water cooling kit. Plus I have 4 sets of batteries that will include free. As is asking $100.00 obo plus shipping.

thanx

still open for more suggestions to get this boat back to the power it had, appreciate any and all, thanx again

yes i do have the water cooling

pretty sure i am good with the batteries, for now, may do the more powerful ones later

thinking the 2 motor replacement is worth a try, and at around 20 each sounds okay

again, the original motors sound powerful

hoping the motor replacement is fairly easy and straightforward, meaning no special knowledge or tools to do it

If you have soldered battery connectors you shouldn't have any trouble with the motor connections. Pre-tin everything and use flux. One motor spins the opposite way so it's connections are reversed. You can always go up a tooth or two on your motor pinions for a bit more speed if your motor temps are okay. Are you using the silicone oil in the nipple's for the driveline or something else to lube them?

okay

2 motors are in !

picked up a soldering iron and tin

need to get some kind of lube

guess just unscrew the motors out, lube new shafts, pre tin electrical connections, insert new motors keeping an eye on polarity for new electrical connection

anything else ?

will do all this soon

You will need to take the old pinion gears off the motors and reinstall them on the new motors use a little blue loctite on the set screws.
Use a piece of paper between the gears to set the gear mesh.
The lube that Traxxas supplies is just silicone oil like they use for shock fluid on rc cars it just squirts in through the nipple by the gear cover.

I have put new motors in my Villain EX every year. Just finished a complete rebuild on mine actually, it was in pretty shaggy shape after last summer. Replaced all my cooling lines, new Titans, new driveshaft bushings. I have plenty of fun with this boat in stock form, aside from an RX8 and 4S lipo powering it.

okay

cant get the gear pinions off the motors to reuse on new motors

1.5 mm hex bit is the correct tool but it wont remove the set screws on either pinion, loose, not a snug tight fit to loosen

may just get a couple new gear pinions from either traxxas or a hobby shop
