2.4Mhz What talks to what???
Within the last 12 mths I purchased a new JR 11X Zero Transmitter with a TD 2.4JM Module this module is labelled DSM J. I later purchased two JR 921 receivers labelled DSM2.
Can anyone explain why these will not bind and why eqipment advertised as being DSM compatible in fact may not work with other DSM eqipment.
At the moment I have several items (all labelled DSM) which will not talk to each other.
It would be great if someone could advise as to what will work with what, brand crossing and all.
Also how does Modulation selection effect the ability to bind or not.

I would say that the TD2.4 module that you bought is not DSM2 compatable. I have the JR DSX9 that works with all DSM2 RX's even the ones from hobbycity. I would reread the instructions that you got with the module and look for the RX's designed for the module. Most all JR and Spektrum air receivers are DSM2

Hi Ghost
How do you like the DSX9? I picked up one yesterday to supplement my Spektrum Dx7. Had a quick play last night but have yet to set up a plane.

RE: 2.4Mhz What talks to what???
DSM J is a protocol that was/is sold in Japan. It is a frequency hopping Spread Spectrum protocol that JR introduced in Japan. I talked to a JR rep last year and at that time they said that it wasn't going to be sold outside of Japan, now I don't know if that has changed or not. DSM2 and DSMX are protocols that are sold in the US and the rest of the world as well. A DSM2/X are not compatible with DSMX and vice versa. You have to have the proper receivers to talk to a transmitter that is broadcasting DSMJ. If you have a DSMX transmitter you can use it to control both DSMX and DSM2 receivers, But a DSM2 transmitter can only control a DSM2 receiver.
I know it's a bit confusing having all the different protocols, but unfortunately that is the current state of JR products.

I love it, very easy to set up new models and use, I replaced my 3810 with it. The 2.4 also works very will with gassers that I fly.

RE: 2.4Mhz What talks to what???
Thanks for your input. Talk about making things confusing, so if I understand correctly then DSMJ transmitter module will only talk to DSMJ receiver - YES???.
So equipment that is generically labelled DSM compatible is not strictly correct , in which case my JR DSMJ Transmit module IS NOT compatible with a JR R921 DSM2??.
In which case what should a buyer be looking for to ensure that there are no compatability issues, the Spektrum DSM2 module system lists all the JR Transmitters which it is compatible with but no mention of compatible receivers??

RJmods,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but yes. Your DSMJ transmitter can only talk to a DSMJ receiver.
A DSMX transmitter can talk to a DSMX or a DSM2 receiver.
And a DSM2 transmitter can talk to a DSM2 receiver.
It is confusing for sure, but that's the fact of the matter.
Sorry.

RE: 2.4Mhz What talks to what???
Hi ken, First of all thanks for taking the time to sort me out with the info which you have supplied, I really do appreciate your efforts.
Satellite recievers, does the same principles apply (I assume so) or can one just mix and match on these. I would expect that if I was using two satellites then they would have to be both of the same series.
Thanks
John

DSMX transmitter works with both DSM2 and DSMX recievers
DSM2 transmitter works with both DSM2 and DSMX recievers.
If you bind a DSMX tx to a DSM2 rx or a DSM2 tx to a DSMX rx they operate in DSM2
