I ended sending to YS. Richard was easy to deal with.
The bill was less than expected and sevice was good. New head and valve and swapped out a tarnished bearing.
Ran it tonite, its all good to go it seems. Should be flying it as soon as the runway dries up a bit [8D]

Hi Guys,
I have a 1.40 DZ that I can't get to transition as I go through the pattern. If I just fly level and punch from about 1/4 throttle it works fine but if if I try coming down out of say a Figure M and then going back up it really sags for awhile and the will catch and start running strong again.
If I yank the DZ out and put my old 1.40L back in the plane it runs fine. The DZ idles great and run good at full throttle transition is great on the ground. fuel is wildcat 30/20 prop is a APC 16X10. I have tried adjusting everything I can think of.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

try a type f glow plug and check the low speed needle adjustment. sounds like it is bogging down in the low end. you might need to readjust everything back to factory to start tuning properly since the settings interrelate. If you do not start at the factory specs then you could be chasing the sweet spot and never find it.

Hi Guys,
I do use type F plugs on the 4 cycles. this appears to be more of a high end issue. if instead of going to wide open I go from low to say 3/4 quarter throt. I don't seem to have this problem. A far as factory presets the DZ has no low end adj. only the reg. and the high end.
One other question. If anyone has a 1.40 DZ my high end needle seems to be a lot less sensitive than most YS's is the normal.

Hello,
I have a 5 or 6 year old ys110. I remember putting the plane away because I couldnt get the YS110 to stop detonating and throwing my props! I got tired of spending $30 on a new spinner everytime I started the engine. I fueled it up last week and started to tinker a bit. It seems when I richened the LSN the engine ran fine and did not throw props in the transition from low to high rpms. I flew my old YAK54 for 3 tanks of CP 30%. When I got it home and cleaned it guess what? I had another ruined spinner!!! How can I stop the detonation? It cant be good for my engine...or my wallet!

Hmm... It all makes sense but this happens around 70% throttle in the transition to full throttle. I will fly again tomorrow and see what happens

My experience with this problem,AND BY THE WAY,( this problem is evident in all 4 stroke glow engines) When the low needle is to rich. the top may need to be leaned too. The engine could be set right, and a leaking diapham pump will flood the engine after shut down, the next time you start it the engine preignites, back fires and throws the prop.

The 140 FZ and Sport are different engines than the 140 L is As to weather or not the parts will interchange I don't know, some will I'm sure.
Why not just get the correct parts from Central hobbies they have the 140 L listed, Plus I would also get a crankshaft ring and a cylinder ring which I don't see on your list of parts,
You will also need to leak check the valves and maybe lap them in or replace them for a no leak seal.

@mike early: also check and replace the barrel seal, very important!
I have a 140L with a damaged (pre owner, some chips out!) and hardened barrel seal.
quite dangerous, it revs up with closed barrel, because of "leaking air".
To check for damages you have to unbuild it, if hardened the barrel feels "loose", with an intact seal it is smooth with a little resistance.

I bought a used DZ160 this spring from a guy flying 2M pattern. I just got everything together to run it on a test stand. The engine looked well maintained and clean when I bought it. It came with a Hatori muffler, a spare APC prop and a bunch of little parts like fuel pump components, spare YS foam clunks, gaskets, etc. I thought it was a pretty good deal for $275. It started first try and ran like a demon on the test stand. With 20/20 Cool Power Pattern fuel and the APC 18.1 X 10 patten prop that was on it I was getting 7400-7500 RPM on the stand with the HS needle backed off peak a few clicks. It sets there and ticks over at 1900 RPM in idle. No mid range or acceleration problems. I had the starter setting on top of the test stand behind the engine when I first opened it up. The prop wash blew the starter off the stand. And yes, there is a LOT of smoke.
