George , That's a question better answered by Bill-stickbuilder.
But I do believe there is one close if not 1/4. I think 23% or 27%. Jump in here Bill.

Another question, if I may....
Was the fabric on the fin stitched? (YMF 5) It's very hard to tell on the photos I've seen. Some look as if there is no stitcing, others, I'm not too sure.
Cheers,
Dave.

Is this rubberized fillet base expected to provide a mroe flexible...compliant interface with other surfaces like the cabanes, struts, and
landing gear fillet?

ED, all that is there now is the glass. All that mold material has been removed. So what ever the4 plies ofglass measure's, is it. Should be more than flexible enough to handle the movement.

Here is a shot of it twisted. Flexible enough and stiff enough to stay put when screwed down. Before the next two plies I will add a 1/4 inch aluninum around the perimeter to reinforce the mount for the screws.
Still need to clean the backside. Should have let the mold material cure for two day's but could'nt wait. As soon as it was firm went to work.

Robert,
Obviously I overlooked what to you was obvious and not explained. After you applied the rubber fillet shaping material...did you then
male mold 2 to 4 ounce to sq yd glass cloth with epoxy "over" the top of the rubberized fillet? Continued to apply until satisfied it was
strong/thick enough...?

Ed,
I do not have a 1/4 scale plan of a YMF. The 1/4 scale plans I do have are the UPF-7 by Jerry Behrans (I think I found it on e-bay) and the CTO by Larry Scott from Model Builder plan # 11811 (also on ebay). The UPF 1/10 Drawing by N. Karstens (Bobs Air Doc) is a good suppliment to any UPF builders plans.

RE: WACO YMF
Pretty much except I'm not using epoxy. I'm using a clear rubber product. I'll give you a hint as to what it is. It is thinable with Toluene.

RE: WACO YMF
Dave,
Yes the fabric is stitched on the fin. The photo shows the approximate stitch lines on NC 14081 in red. Normally any point of contact on a flying surface is stitched and taped (ribs) and on the fuselage any point of contact with the frame work is taped.

RE: WACO YMF
Good day all,
I was wondering if I may pick some brains with regards to the powering of a 33% Waco from AMR.
The kit has been purchased and delivered, however we are still deliberating on the engine...the only certainty is that it is going to be a Moki.
The question I wish to ask is whether the Moki 150 has the guts to get the AMR kit off the ground. My father and I do not want to overpower the model, but rather wish for far more scale characteristics.
Can anyone offer some advice.
Regards,
Jason and Ken Mansfield

RE: WACO YMF
The Moki 150 will get it off the ground ok but you'll be on the low end of the power curve. You'll be much happier with a 215 or 250. It does'nt need ALL the power avialable with the larger engines but with judicious use of the throttle it's a perfect match.
See the Model Airplane News website or Youtube for videos of my 33% with a 215. Also see my article in the Dec, 2010 issue of Model Airplane News of the whole setup. Mitch WB 100

RE: WACO YMF
Well I just got my wire in from Taconic and this stuff is going to work well. FYI, I Figure I need close to 20ft. Which only weigh's 3.7oz.
Size wise look's perfect for the Pica 1/5 scale. To small for larger scale's. Would probably be ok for 1/6 also.
If any one is interested in some PM me. I only have 880 ft. LOL Your welcome to it.
Size is, .103 x .028 gauge silver flat wire.

RE: WACO YMF
I have a 1/5 WACO and I had to refurbish the cowl. Now I have to finish painting it and I am wondering if there is an easy way to put the darts on the cowl blisters. I don't have the decals and I really don't want to paint each one by hand if I don't have to. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Robert, Is that stuff "springy tempered" or is it soft and bendy (no pun jokes!). I'll buy 50 ft from you. Coil some up and send to Mitch Epstein 651 N. Main St. Leominster, Ma.
I'll send a check out to you.....Thanks. Mitch WB100

RE: WACO YMF
Ok, How stiff it is seem's to be the question. Well its somewhat stiff but bendable. The closest i can think of is a metal clothes hanger.
