Another question, if I may....

Was the fabric on the fin stitched? (YMF 5) It's very hard to tell on the photos I've seen. Some look as if there is no stitcing, others, I'm not too sure.

Ok gents, this isthe right gear flair. Not quite done yet. Have two more layer's of glass to add to stiffen it up a little.Thentrim and sand.

ED, all that is there now is the glass. All that mold material has been removed. So what ever the4 plies ofglass measure's, is it. Should be more than flexible enough to handle the movement.

Here is a shot of it twisted. Flexible enough and stiff enough to stay put when screwed down. Before the next two plies I will add a 1/4 inch aluninum around the perimeter to reinforce the mount for the screws.
Still need to clean the backside. Should have let the mold material cure for two day's but could'nt wait. As soon as it was firm went to work.

Obviously I overlooked what to you was obvious and not explained. After you applied the rubber fillet shaping material...did you then
male mold 2 to 4 ounce to sq yd glass cloth with epoxy "over" the top of the rubberized fillet? Continued to apply until satisfied it was
strong/thick enough...?

I do not have a 1/4 scale plan of a YMF. The 1/4 scale plans I do have are the UPF-7 by Jerry Behrans (I think I found it on e-bay) and the CTO by Larry Scott from Model Builder plan # 11811 (also on ebay). The UPF 1/10 Drawing by N. Karstens (Bobs Air Doc) is a good suppliment to any UPF builders plans.

Pretty much except  I'm not using epoxy. I'm using a clear rubber product. I'll give you a hint as to what it is. It is thinable with Toluene.

I think I will stick with the Barth 1:4 scale YMF-5. Overall its priced right for all the contents and attention to detail. Hoping it builds
out as fast as people say it does.

Yes the fabric is stitched on the fin. The photo shows the approximate stitch lines on NC 14081 in red. Normally any point of contact on a flying surface is stitched and taped (ribs) and on the fuselage any point of contact with the frame work is taped.

The Moki 150 will get it off the ground ok but you'll be on the low end of the power curve. You'll be much happier with a 215 or 250. It does'nt need ALL the power avialable with the larger engines but with judicious use of the throttle it's a perfect match.

Well I just got my wire in from Taconic and this stuff  is going to work well. FYI, I Figure I need close to 20ft. Which only weigh's 3.7oz.
Size wise look's perfect for the Pica 1/5 scale. To small for larger scale's. Would probably be ok for 1/6 also.
If any one is interested in some PM me. I only have 880 ft. LOL  Your welcome to it.
Size is, .103 x .028 gauge silver flat wire.

I have a 1/5 WACO and I had to refurbish the cowl. Now I have to finish painting it and I am wondering if there is an easy way to put the darts on the cowl blisters. I don't have the decals and I really don't want to paint each one by hand if I don't have to. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Ok, How stiff it is seem's to be the question. Well its somewhat stiff but bendable. The closest i can think of is a metal clothes hanger.
