It's still a great father - son / daughter - grandson / granddaughter kind of hobby. Yes, I too, remember when I could pick up a kit for less than ten bucks; however, I had to work all day long to earn that kind of money. Besides that, scratchbuilding is something that I always wanted to do. It was not until I had amassed a fairly complete collection of tools and skills that scratchbuilding was even possible. Please pass along your 60 years of experience and love of the hobby to as many as possible. My sons still enjoy and my grandsons and granddaughter are getting interested and will very soon be good at both building and flying.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
...If I can help, anytime...! Realize that I never aspired to the level of scale modeling that there is today, but I have absolutely no use for "ARF's"...True graification comes with building first, and flying second. Gary L. Sr.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
Hey,
I just got a new Roto Motor 35 cc four stroke gasoline engine. Can anyone suggest a kit that would be a good match for this engine? I would like a high wing design with either a sport or semi scale design. I want to stay away from the standard J3 Cubs. I have looked at citabrias but if there is something else I would like to look into something not so commonly modeled. A plus would be a fairly quick assembly at the field when I fly it. Anyone got a suggestion?

I was really looking forward to having the Rascal 110 in a kit. That would be my ideal kit for this motor. I hope whatever the problem sig is having with their suppliers, or wherever the problems lies, gets resolved so they can start stocking these kits.

David,
I talked to the guys from Sig in Toledo and they have put the Rascal 110 kit on the back burner for awhile. Since they got issues with their ARF suppliers worked out they are going to bring out an ARF of the 110 before the kit comes out. sorry to be the bearer of bad news here.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
David,
I am not sure of the fit with the 35cc Roto, but this is a nice looking 1/4 scale kit for sale in the classifieds. At a reasonable price (of course, you will likely spend 4-5 times that much getting it in the air).

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
Guys:
I just came back from the local hobby shop. I asked them to inquire about the Sig 1/3 scale spacewalker. The response from Sig was that they are waiting on fiberglass parts from their vendors. They went on to say it will be about 1 to 2 months before they are ready.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
That reminds me - at some point Ihave to finish repairing the flight damages and hangar rash on my 4*60 (I also have cut 2 panels off EACH side of the wing, should be fun, especially since Ihaven't flown in a couple years now)!!!

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
I haden't flown since 1998, had a 4 star 60 given to me. Jumped right in and started flying it, one of the best planes I've flown. That was 3 months ago. As of today I've built 2 kits and ran 3 gal of fuel thru the 4 star. A friend gave me a Long EZ to build, (part of the Fusco fiasco) can't wait to get it built. Long story short, one 4 star sucked me headlong right back into rc. Set up flaprons on it today just to see how they worked, talk about a floater, the thing just refuses to land, hehe.

I'm totally spoiled by my 4*. I keep buying other planes and getting disappointed. Nothing so far has flown as well as the Four Star.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
How about the CG Tiger ll anybody up for that with a 46? I turned my back once on landing for a split secound and it was on the ground taxing right down the runway like it had good sense!

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
I would have to agree with Ken on the Ultra Sport 60. My favorite kit of all time, although the 4* is a close 2nd. The only CG Tiger I've ever seen was in the top of a tree and in pieces so I can't say how well if flew, the pilot wasn't so good. I started building the Fusco Long EZ last night, that's going to be a fun project.

Didn't you know trees have legs and can do as they please! Actually the CG Tiger ll is one of my favorite Sunday fun plans...you can do just about anything with it and it is very forgiving, at least in my experience which spans 60 years.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
Where have all the kits gone?? Barf Barf!!!!
ORIGINAL: RACE 66
This is for general discussion. I've got a few years of modeling under my belt, and I recall when ARF's were the rarity, example: Lanair's models, Jesters, etc. and kits abound of the balsa type. Now, because of "change" the opposite is true. Less kits verse's many ARF'S, ARC'S etc. availible.
Now my point of the discussion, It's hard to find a relative complete source for kits. You have to hunt and pick for viewing. My question, has someone assembled a resource of kits, kit cutters etc on the web where you can go to one resource or several, rather spending allot of time "surfing"- "window shopping" ? Yes I know I am asking for the "golden ring", but I gotta ask. Thanks for any suggestions.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
I have 60+ years at it and I think we are fresh out of golden egg laying geese.
But for me there is scratch building. To me much more gratifying, and really a lot of fun! (Burns up winters!) Anddd there are tons and tons of plans out there. Cleveland, Zerolli, (Spelling) and All of the plans from RCM & Model Airplane News...and there are some guys who have gone to the trouble of copying plans of kits no longer in existence. Food for Thought!

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
Having flown both a 4*40, and the ultrasport 40...and built both models TWICE so far, I'd say "get both".
Noob shot down my ultrasport, and I sold the 4 star. But I have a ultrasport 40 kit in my stash (and will watch for 60 at swaps), and a partially built 4*120 from the estate of a deceased club member for the future.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
Hey Guys, Warning BIG TIME!! I just had dealings with "Hobby Partz"
They are a bad news bear! They were selling a flight simulator for $19.+
and that should have been the warning...they will not talk to you or respond to email...I have sent the product in absolutely new condition back to them, and have since turned the matter over to the BBB.

I think I may have a problem with self-control. I have 3 kits under construction at the same time, 2 Ultra Sports a 40 and a 60 and a Fusco Long Easy which by the way, there is nothing easy about it.
Naaaa........ I think the problem is that I need more space in my shop.........yeah, that's the problem.
