Dont discount the Alpha series of engines, they are more powerful than a similar displaced Saito but they run much... much cleaner, if price does not bother you an OS is a great choice. I have owned my fair share of Saitos so I know what to compare against.
Of course, personally i would no longer own a 40 sized slimer, electric is way to go these days, more power, lighter, lighter airframes, less vibration... only downside is in flight times but I am getting 8minutes with my 60inch edge so that is pretty good. Timer is set for 8 1/2 minutes, the last 30seconds is landing so a true 8 minute flight.

I vote AX55. I have one on my Twist and it has too much power at 1/2 throttle, but mine is not stock. Up the compression by cutting .005" off the top of the cylinder. Open up the carb bore and streamline the crank port. Minor changes wake this thing up. I live at 4200', run mine on 15% with a touch of caster in my fuel. The best fun fly engine I have ever used, I would never spend twice the money on an engine that weigs twice as much for a 3D plane where every ounce counts.Use a cheap $10Micro servo for throttle to save an ounce.

Good luck
Scott

4strokes have bottom end torque which is perfect for 3d though.

Well my 40" profile plane weighs 3 lbs even with everything. (battery, servos, wires, extensions, fuel tank full) the only thing I lack is the engine and prop. So my total weight will be 4lbs everything give or take a few oz. I was thinking a saito .62 or should I go with a .72 ? the difference in weight between the 62 and 72 will be like 1.6 oz . Do you think it is worth the extra weight to have the extra power? or stay with 62?

It will be more fun with the 72 and a 13x6.
