Anytime i need an RC gasket in a hurry i just use a cereal or Ritz Cracker box and cut it to shape using scissors and/or a hobby knife. Works perfect.

There should be VERY LITTLE Play on the rod to crank bushing, The AQU engines are Notorious for stretching the lower rod journal out and eventually throwing the rod,, I would Definitely Replace it.

I don't use an Exhaust Gasket, I just use RTV Silicone and let it dry overnight,, I haven't had an exhaust leak from That Spot since I went to Silicone.

With Most radio systems especially AM, if you get the TX and RX close together Will Twitch. I generally keep the TX antenna Down until I'm ready to Launch.

Thanks Amax. Can you clarify what should be replaced? Is it the rod or the crank?

I'm a bit perplexed on why the journal is loose when flip the rod. Regardless of how the rod is flipped, its loose on the journal and appropriately tight on the piston pin. That seems to suggest that it's the crank pin with the problem. Buuuuut...no scoring on the crank pin.

I've managed to destroy my superstart gears.  I just got off the phone with Hobby Services, and they are sending me a new one, but slightly different.  I spoke with Mike, and he says that this...

is a drop in replacement on the Vegas Engine, and it's what he uses on his Vegas.  The stock backplate has a Bevel/Miter gear arrangment, but the replacement above is a simple spur gear, and Mike says he's been running it for quite some time with no problems whatsoever.  So for anyone who doesn't want to go the starter belt route, which i did not, this is a drop in replacement that is not likely to strip out like the stock setup.

The AQU engines I've grenaded always blew the rod journal apart. It's been A While since I even Touched an AQU engine so specifics are limited at best
In general your Crank to Rod connection will be looser than the Rod to piston because it creates more friction due to increased movement so it needs more clearance for lubrication.
When the rod starts to fail it normally Very obvious when you look close at the journal. If your getting the same fit from Both ends of the rod I would have to Speculate(since I'm not standing there,,lol) and say it is the Normal amount of play for that part.

Not like it hasn't been done before, but here is my attempt at installing an O.S. 21VZ-M into an old Miss Vegas hull. I have been wanting to try this for a number of years...but finally have got around to putting it all together!

It has a 150 flex cable with a 3/16 stub and for now I am using a Grimracer 40x52 three blade prop. The motor can certainly handle more prop, however I don't think the hull can handle much more...especially in rough water. Also, I have installed an 8oz tank, which I hope is enough to get through six laps plus mill time.

Can one of you guru's advise - my Aquacraft vegas .18 is miserable to start the first time out.  It's gotta be me - what am I doing wrong?

 Here are the symptoms:

- after the boat has sat for a few hours, overnight, etc.
- boat won't start (easily)
- will do a quick "braaaappp" for a .5 second or so then die
- will keep doing this until out of some miracle it catches and runs
- THEN it runs great....and will do a hot restart with one or two pulls

Setup specifics:

- Aquacraft .18
- either K&B or Odonnell OD-9 plug
- wildcat 50% nitro fuel
- head shim installed
- C cell igniter

 Starting procedures:

- prime fuel line, get bubbles out
- put thumb on carb, pull starter a couple times, make sure fuel is in throat of carb
- set throttle adjust on RC unit so throttle plate is partly open (about midpoint)
- put igniter on plug
- very gently pull starter until i feel a little 'pop' in the engine 
- pull starter with medium velocity

Typically it will then go....brrrraaaaapppp...and die.   Once it does start, it idles great and then runs fine from there.  Restarts when warm are a breeze. 

Technique problem?  Wrong plug?  Wrong fuel?  Wrong settings on the motor????

My neighbors are starting to think I have OCD.  HELP!!

might try a colder plug with 50% the OD9 is a medium plug an MC #9 always worked for me (MC=McCoy)

It seems that a buoy has struck my Miss Vegas Deuce........Trying too find a new hull....don't really want to get into fiberglass repair. Any help would be appreciated!! Thankx, Dillard.

Ok im new to the rc boats and wanting to know if the miss vagas is a very good starter boat iv had alot of experience with nitros so im not too worried about the engine part but will it mess up the engine if it gets wet like if I flip it? And are parts easy to get? I really think they are cool though and iv heard some good things about thier engines that they last a long time.

My first rc boat was a Miss Vegas from a few years ago and I still run it to this day, but I have an .18 CVR in it now. The engine will be fine even if you flip it...just make sure to flush all of the water out of it before you try to start it again and run some type of after run oil at the end of the day so the bearings wont rust between usage. ;-)

Well, I'm now part of the 'need a new hull' crew.  Pilot error and boat met dock at full tilt boogie. 

I think I'm going to try to fix it... will post some pics.

Any suggestions on how to best flush out all the fuel oil residue coating the inside of the hull?

Needing new hulls? I posted a wanted ad at INTLwaters and was able to get a brand new one for $125 shipped and a slightly used one for $90 shipped. There was about 6 people that had hulls, of course now down to 4. Post up over there and see.

Does anyone know offhand what the part number is for the Octura Collet that fits the Vegas?

It has been a few years since I got mine...and just can't remember. Thinking it is the 5mm to .150 collet?
