NW Indiana Warbird Day: Sat, July 16 2011, BEST Warbird Event within 100 miles!
This is one of 2 events that I try to make it too every year (Louisville, KY is the other one). Turnouts are usually quite large, ALL warbirds allowed: big, small, gas powered, electric powered, and everything in between.
About 10 miles SE of Gary, Indiana, the Midwest Sundowners have a VERY long and wide, well maintained grass runway, surrounded by open farmland (no obstacles).
They have very a very knowledgable staff, put on a EXCELLENT full course lunch, even includes beverages and deserts (for donation: YOU choose price), and since they have been doing this for YEARS, no wait: DECADES, they run a very professional event.
Landing fees? We don't need no stinkin' landing fees, why should we charge YOU to bring your beautiful warbirds to our flying site? Ditto on parking fees. In fact, there are NO fees of any kind. You only pay for your lunch, and only if you want it, and only as much as you want to pay.

Looks like maybe some light rain around 10AM, sunny and calm winds the rest of the day.
I'll be traveling lighht this year, only 3 planes:
Top Flite P-47D with Vortac Bomb Drops
My trusty highly modified Hanga 9 Corsair
65" span B-17 with 3 gear retracts, fuctional bomb bay doors and bomb drops. ALSO: modified the motor setup so I can taxi on 2 engines, and use rudder mix to power up into turns.

Jim it was good to see you and your wife again this year, always enjoy your company and flights.Note, there were no big crashes. My H9 P47 hit the grass at the end of the field and then a little later went into the corn.No damage to speak of.Both my GS P51s made me very happy.
P.S. the guy starting the P47 is Jim. We even had some young boys dressed in camo and wwI or wwII.
