Default Batman Forever Batwing EDF Challange

Has anyone out there built or thought of building the Batman Forever Batwing? I recently found a good 3 view of it. Althought I believe the wings should be tapered without the large bumps shown so that they are flatter. This is shown in the toy picture below. If anyone needs better pictures I have the toy and can take any angle needed. I would love to see an EDF of this fantastic aircraft.

That thing looks more model rocket than plane.

By the time you modded it to be a plane it would no longer look like that.

Just the fun of finding the CG on that thing alone would be a blast! LOL

Problems
1 too thick wings
2 too dirty airflow over all that surface crap.
3 Where are the control surfaces on that thing?
4 CG
5 engine intake and exhaust?

I'd just mount a anti-gravity pod in it and fly it with a couple of magnetic arrays. I don't think that thing can fly aerodynamically on it's own.

Now if you stuff a rocket in the tail and point it strait up!

While anything can fly with a rocket motor strapped to it some things will never make a good flying RC airplane. The artist that drew up this stuff didn't give a rats but of consideration in physics or aerodynamics.

You can either modify current planes into a bat plane. I'm thinking of doing this with an Ultra Sport. Or you can go back and pick out bat planes that actually looked like they could fly in our world.

Here are some that could be doable.

I designed, built and flew a CL bat wing when I was 14 years old.

That was 51 years ago!

I guess times don't change.

WOW!

You came up with plans in just two days. Takes me two days just to find paper. Toilet paper!

Can you drop in a photo of the plans?

Ya know..... if the open "picklefork" area between the two forward points and the center pod were to be filled in with a thin but rigid clear plastic then this particular bat plane would act more like a basic round shaped delta wing planform.....

One thing is a slam dunk on this though. The two little gills you show for air inlets to the EDF are woefully small. Just skip them entirely and put a BIG open scoop in the belly that runs right up into the backside of "Batman" as he sits under the canopy. You need as little possible for any sort of restriction for the inlet of the EDF. And in fact I'd even mount the EDF so it sits down under the wing by a bit.

Good flying configurations are to be copied from Nature rather than from Hollywood.
The shape of the wings of a bat are far from the shape of this fantastic machine.

BMatthews' idea is very good.

If anyone is interested in building this plane on this site as well I have attached the tiled plans for a 30 inch wingspan using a 70mm edf unit or pusher prop. I need some test pilots.

The fiberglass plane is the origional batwing. This batwing is from Batman Forever and I personally think it is a better design.

Intakes have to be bigger than that. I think you'd be drilling a cheater hole in that fuselage.

What do you think about an intake at the front in between the pickle forks in addition to the ones at the sides?

The intake area of any ducts has to be equal in cross section to the cross section area of the actual EDF opening. That's why we were suggesting leaving the belly open with a big ramp up into the opening from below. EDF's just do not like to be starved for air at the front of the fan.

I think the Black Manta's submarine would make a better flying EDF than that vertion of the batwing.

I thought I would show you the digital model I've been working on. Here are some pictures to spark your interest. The grey boxes on the front show approximate intake locations.

Yeah the lines of the design change alot when you have to take into account all the air that must pass through the model.

The movie original looks like alien spaceship technology.

Do you know about making small balsa gliders? You know those cheap little balsa airplanes you that come in a plastic bag in some retail stores. Well you take some thin sheets of balsa and cut out your shape. Then you take a small lump of modeling clay and use it for ballast. You throw the model and try to get it to go on a long flat glide.

If the model shoots nose up move the clay forward.
If the model dives down move the clay backwards.
You do this in small amounts. This will give a close approximation of the CG on the RC model.
