3-D Printing
I wonder if this will be a cheaper way to build jets, or its parts.

RE: 3-D Printing
Hi,
The company I work in has a Rapid Prototyping Division where we have a few of the different RP systems, SLA, SLS, DMLS, FDM, 3D printer and thermojet system...
The work volume of such machines are quite limited. Probably a good way to build patterns of very intricate small scale parts, and using these patterns to create moulds for casting the parts. But definitely not for big plugs, etc., as the build material are definitely not cheap.

I used them a lot! for all kinds of internal parts in ABS Plastics. Currently testing them at Zero G as we will like to put one on the ISS station the one is on the orbit.
Last week I had the chance to get on the Zero G flight and it was AWESOME see the video below:

Hi Figuero,
I am sorry I am not able to estimate a pricing for you.
But besides materials, there are other factors that would need to be added up in the cost, e.g, modelling time, running time (which depends on the resolution/layer thickness the model is built in) and post processing job to strengthen the part.
Inverstmast quote would probably be a good reference for pricing for a job carried out by a service bureau. But can I ask if the $125 based on 3D printing technique using a ZCorp printer (as in you tube video)?

I've always wonderd why rapid prototyping is't used more among modellers. It's a great way to produce smaller series of parts which now days are pretty strong and fully usable.
At work we use this method pretty often before ordering injection moulding tools, but also for fixtures where the SLS-part is the actual part used in production.

I think because a good part of them doesn´t know how to 3D draw, as a good software for doing it was quite expensive and time consuming to install and use.
This days however anyone can learn to do it for free, and with dozens of manuals and video tutorials.
