So you ordered the formers and canopy from Top Flite from the kit? Didn't know you could do that with the formers. That really look s great.

You can get the canopy from tower hobbies also.I went to top flites homepage and downloaded the manual for the p47 stick kit.It has pics of all the
formers with the part numbers.I got all the part numbers I needed and got the local Hobbytown to order everything.I try to do all my business there,so it
will be there when I need something. They will match tower prices and I don't have to pay shipping.

ORIGINAL: P47Tbolt

here is a link to how and what I used

if you need part numbers for the wood parts let me know.
The canopy is from the Top Flite Gold Edition P-47 wood kit.perfect it.
I think the ARF is based from the kit version and built as a bubbletop because
there is more the razorback spine involves a little more work.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10...m.htm#10458390
If you had the part numbers that would be great, I definitely want to try the conversion. My plane should be here in a few days and fortunately (or unfortunately) I have most of the fuselage from my old one to practice on first. Do they have balsa sheeting that fits that concave surface or do you bend it yourself? Thanks for your help!

Here are the part numbers for the formers and balsa pieces you will need from Top Flite.
you will only be using a few wood pieces out of the formers.I will list what they are.
You have to bend the sheeting to fit the razorback.I lightly wet the sheeting with a spray bottle of just water,
slowly fit it to the side and held in place while I used a heat gun to dry it.Do not glue it with it wet.once you
get it shaped to the curves, make sure it is completely dry then glue it on.

P476F04- Former CB
P476F05- Formers 6C & 7C
P476F03- Former 5C
P476S04- Fuse Spine
P476F17- Aft Deck Top Block
P476F12- Fuslage Fuse Spine
Canpy029- Canopy - Tower has the canopy for $9.99
(2) 3/16 X 3/16 x 48 stringers
(2) 3/32 x 3 x 48 sheeting
Hobbylite filler
Olive Drab Monocote

I used Hobbylite filler to blend the spine in with the fin and to fill any gaps
between the sheeting on the sides.
If you want pics,I have some from start to finish.just pm me your email address
and I will send them to you.

I used the Top Flite P47TBolt maual from their website as a guide to do this.

Does anyone feel that the thrust angle is too much for the DLE 20? Had no problem mounting the motor but, I feel the thrust angle is too much.
Thinking of removing mount extention and installing a new one.

I'm getting close to being finished with mine. Has anyone had the colored plastic pieces not matching the color of the monokote very well? If you painted them what color and brand of paint did you use?

The cowl is on correctly. I would have to break the cowl to get it to line up properly with the propeller. TF showes 2.5 for the thrust angle on the kit but nothing on the arf. I will get a protractor to find the angle.

Can any one tell me where you placed the receiver pack in this aircraft?Iam using an A123, and the placement as suggested in the manual is tight. Magnum .91 for power (inverted)and I am considering
putting it on the fire wall just behind the engine.

Warm Regards,

Travis

I think it is not so tigh, I placed just in the tray provided, but the battery was placed behind the motor mount just for CG purposes.....

My concern is not where to place the receiver, but the battery pack. Do you think the heat from the engine will be a problem?

Travis

Has anyone used either the Lado or E-Flite electric retracts in the P-47? If so, what struts did you use and how did they fit?

Bruce

I think that if you keep at least one inch or so from the engine, heat shouldn`t be problem. Warp on plastic and some foam.

I have 2 - 2000 ma, 5 cell, flat packs on foam (foam between them as well) held with wire ties down low right behind the tank. I slid Velcro under the wire ties added a little more foam on top of the receiver packs then Velcroed the receiver into place. With the Saito 115 in place she balanced bang on!
I have placed receiver packs against the firewall with some of that blue foam that does not really absorb much fuel and oil and they have held up just fine.

Bruce,

Check out the P47 struts from rcskylite.com. They fit a 5mm wire, are really inexpensive, and have nice workmanship. They worked nicely in my jug. They are about 8mm short, but a spacer can easily be added between the strut and the main.

Good luck,
Joe

A link is worth a thousand words:

BTW: Thanks for the tip, I knew nothing about these. Too bad they limit them to Max Wheel Size: 3.25". Still, gotta wonder if 3 1/2" Dave Browns will work.

Corsair Jock,

These struts will fit the wheels provided with the kit by using wide spacers (provided with the struts). To keep from using the wide spacers, I Dremeled off a small amount of metal at the offset portion to make the wheel fit. There is a good amount of metal there to work with.
