RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
I can't tell from the photos the condition of the combustion chamber but something had to have gone wrong to have the NGV overheat, crack and start to erode the way it appears here to have done. How do the sticks in the combustion chamber look? Are any of them loose and/orrattling around or perhaps eroded? I saw the glow plug ring had gotten loose. The tunnel looks like it probably distorted from heat. Was it stuck to the NGV?

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
This has been my experience as well which is why I asked to know the condition of the combustion chamber. I think that it is a domino effect... needles clogged then corroded sticks then much heat to one section of the NGV. I had a similar issue develop from some imbalance causing vibration which I think caused 2sticks to loosen up then corroded and basically similar meltdown.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
I would say it is worth every penny as you wind up with a whole lot more damage in the long run as a result of this... domino effect as I said above... I think for many if this happens it is game over... for others that can work on the things it is a bad day...

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
just removed my 1400 from service after 22 hrs, about 100 flights-'07 vintage. Max RPM was dropping off.
found the NGV with some cracks, CC doesn't look bad, all the sticks are secure, a few have a buildup on them.
when doing the birthday candle test, only one ejector had a minimal flame. I suspected worse.
It's been a good motor and no flameouts.
Where's a good source for the NGV? talked to Mark the other day and have a call in for Glabe, but no response yet.
anyone getting parts from him?
will the Wren 54 NGV fit and can we get them?
who would be a good one for balancing?
thanks,
Jack

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
I spoke to Mark very recently and he is no longer with Jetjoe but helpingout hisclients as he can. I asked him about NGVs which he had none and I bought the couple of used combustion chambers he had left over. I think he is pretty much cleaned out of most parts. I did ask Mark about using a Wren NGVand he said that it would fit but you know the Wren part is going to be 3 x's the cost of the JetJoe part.
To balance I just used Kerry Sterner of USSimjet in Bath PA and highly recommend him to anyone needing to balance a motor.Mark referred me to him. Kerryis top notch and will measure the degree of imbalance of your turbinebefore he works on itwhich is very good to know!He gave me a quote of100 for the balance but then charged less becausemy motor was not badly out of balance and required minimal work (balanced by Gabe last)... Hands down Kerryis the most accommodating and polite individual I have dealt with....
His number is (610)746-9444

You know looking at these photos Jack it really looks like something else happened here... sticks all secure... one burner lit less than others... usually there is more of a smoking gun to cause this sort of damage...

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
croatiablu those were chrigui's pics.
thanks for the info on Kerry, Mark had mentioned him.
I assume Kerry just needs the shaft w the turbine wheel, compressor and bearings attached to balance?
how is JJ in filling orders if I order an NGV from them? about a month?

Jack,
JJ is great with regard to orders... PayPal money and wait about 3 weeks... They are really very good at getting back in a timely fashion. I just wish they would engage new reps for the states. Mark left and Gabe is in the service...You can call Ron Ballard from Wren but like I said I think you are looking at well over 200 for the NGVfrom them. I have heard that the wren part is better though.. I think Mark told me this.
Kerry will want the whole motor in the can minus the tail cone.he balances it in the can. The other core type testing he said is OKbut you have to balance it in the can anyway because a simple thing like the bearing spacer/washeron the compressor side can pitchthemotor out of balance just being turned one side or the other. I took off the shroud and RPMsensor and left the festo connectors on. Put tape over them to keep garbage out of them. Leave a few screws in the tail cone to keep the NGVsituated correctly. He will call you before he starts to tell you how far out the motor is when he gets it.
I had no clue whose pictures are whose... it is interesting though to note what causes these issues though... one thing for sure that the problem appears to start and causes a lot of damage real fast.....

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Hi Guys
Its been a very long time, since I updated the progress of the combustion chamber for the JJ1800. Been away doing work related issues and have managed to get some work done on it. The combustion chamber has got 12 vapouriser tubes and 12 needles. The vapouriser tubes are incoloy 840 and the combustion chamber was made from 304 stainless steel.
Regards
Craig

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Hi
More pics of the combustion chamber, which was tig welded together, using 316L as a filler rod. The rear comb is "wired" in position, should it ever need to be removed, for repair etc. One thing for sure is that its not easy to weld 0,5 mm 304 grade stainless steel together.
Regards
Craig

Hi.
Here ar some pics of the shaft and shaft tunnel, for the JJ1800 which I made. The shafts were rough-cut,case hardened and then ground between centres.
