Default World Championships Equipment used

Does anyone know what equipment the competitors used at the recent F3A World Championships in Muncie? I'm interested in knowing which airplane, engine, and RC system each competitor used. This used to be posted in various places, but I haven't seen anything like this, yet. Is there a list posted where you can just put up a link?

Thanks,

bax

Hi Bill:
From the LOT of pictures of the WCh2011, I made my own list of the Pilots-Planes-Engine-motor combos, as good as I can.
Probably has a LOT of errors, all of them unwanted. And apologize for them.
Now corrected and completed with all new data.
If someone want the Excel file, just ask for it.
Regards.

Are you sure Hatta flew Futaba? He is a JR pilot as far as I know, unless he switched recently...

Hi, the modifications are in the original list, not to repeat every time.
Thanks to all for the contribution.
Also I included the last column with flyMode, but few data.....
Some of yours were there, so: Glow/Electric, .... ¿20/80; 30/70 %?

I stand corrected as Jarvis said about Hatta.

Jorge, my motor 2 is Hacker C50, and we estimated there was about 35%YS in this WC. Some pilots returned from electric to YS we were told there, don't have a list, sorry.

What i observed was that two pilots from team Switzerland and btw high placed 27th and 17th who used to fly E-Power they made the switch to Glow and both were flying Axiome+`s with YS.

Actually it would be interesting indeed to know why they opted to go back to Glow power?.

It looks from the videos that the YS 175 CDI is monster..!! and runs very smoothly and allows you to spin up to 21` props and inturn you can fly very very slow and i mean E-power SLOW..!!,heck i can`t wait for it to be available for purchase.

Wellperhaps its has to do with the fact that with a YSCDi you are burning off the fuel reducing the weight and improving flight performance through the schedule.
With E-power you have the batteries there all the time, weight is a constant but the fuel flow is regrading hence reducing flight performance through the schedule.

Im sure the planes are spec'd to account for that so I'm just throwing that out there

I think the YS175 is more powerful than any electric, unless compared to the new Q80 which seems to be the only close to it, and there is something interesting, the French and Japanese were using 20% nitro, not 30%, now that is power, I guess 30% will be more power than anyone might need, and, they were not using full power!!

Probably the switch is due to the F schedules, you can not fly the F on a 4400mAh battery and expect to have the same power at the end of the sequence, where you can with YS, if my memory is not wrong, Andrew was flying with 5300mAh batteries on the finals(Andrew correct me if I'm wrong), of course he did not have weight problems, but not all can do that.

BTW, in my opinion, Andrew won the Unk #1 hands down, very very impressive, flawless, he was the only pilot to fly the sequence with absolutely no errors, we were actually joking saying we all needed to change our names and have European last names to get better scores.

Andrew Jesky flew with world champion level, same goes for Chip, it is a shame I have not seen a note to congratulate them, Brett flights were also incredible, my congratulations to all of them!!

yes I suspect the F schedules has something to do with the switch. Also the YS175CDi I amgine would enable a very low idle which was not achievable with just a glow plug. Could the lower idle have an impact on the downlines and using the prop as a brake more effectively than before?
I guess more controllable throttle, more reliable low idle all make for a engine that allows the benefits of an electric without carrying the weight throughout the flight.
I'd be dead keen to see if gasoline makes an appearance in F3A in the next year. Quieting them is not so difficult anylonger and I suppose it jsut takes someone who is dedicated to make it work

The idle on the 170CDI and the 175CDI is identical, but as you mentioned the braking of the bigger prop is greater, and the engine is very smooth, the thing on YS is you can add 2 clicks of power during a roll and you can fell it locks the plane, when on the electric you need to go way past 1/4 throttle to do the same, I do have an Amethyst with a Hacker C50-14XL Comp, so I can assure you there is a difference, I did not liked the way the electric responds, anybody can get used to it, but YS to me is better, and easier to control.

One thing nobody mentions is, there was an YS leaning out and it stopped during the F of a Swiss, but on the other hand an electric caught fire and was a total loss, and not mentioning the amount of batteries destroyed in Muncie due to the extreme hot weather.

Thanks for starting this thread! It is good to see what everyone used. As for me it was hacker C50-14XL and castle ice 80HV controller, Falcon 20x15 prop. Thunder power 10s 5000 mah 25c packs.

Alejandro,
Thanks for the comments, I really had fun flying in the finals and all pilots flew really good. In the finals I ended up using the 5000mah packs just due to the fact I had only been pulling about 4000mah out per flight. In utah I was using more battery and was concerned I would not have enough power in the wind but that wasn't any issue.
