I read he had a Neu 2200 series motor somewhere. #665

Ryan
He started a new thread and is running a Castle 1515 2200kv motor in one of his Tunnel Hulls a 36''
but their could be other threads that we are both seeing?
I was looking at this thread under post # 665

my bad, it is a mamba 2200. castle uses nue motors though right? most of the time when i say mamba monster in the boat forums people say they haven't heard of it so i called it a neu 2200kv
Neu is much different than Castle. Castle is a dealer of Neu motors.

The Mamba 2200kv motor would be great in a hull around the mid 30'' region as SRT10 has pointed out. I would run 4s on it.

Ryan
Sorry Ryan, I missed that was in this thread

You would need a custom adapter plate to fit that motor on a 7.5cc Lower unit.

allow me to be a bit more clear, i have absolutely no clue at all in whats involved in converting a nitro too fe where outboards are concerned. please help with a little more in the way of description. are there any parts available for purchase or will it have to bee 100% one off? im fairly handy when it comes to machining my own parts but a little guidance as to what im up against would greatly help. would it be easier to buy a different lower that my motor will just bolt up with or is converting my nitro a viable option? i really appreciate any help. thanks guys

It would require all custom parts as far as I know. It may be easier to adapt a unit that already exists for your application and keep your 7.5 lower for your 7.5cc engine.

Ryan, Do you mess around with any FE anymore or just run nitro now?

I run electric, gas and nitro still. Was in to nitro more aggressively than FE 8 years ago, them it switched over to electric. Gas is the newest, but now its more gas and electric. I'm just in the final stages of my 4s2p Rigger hull. I don't run anything less than 4s anymore, weeded out my 2s hulls. My electric Tunnel lost its life in a competetive club race and I just haven't got around to building another one. Way TOO MANY hobbies, too little time - you know!

Man I am sorry to hear about your tunnel. I always liked that boat. I back for now and am going to try and finish my tunnel. Things have really changed in the last 1 1/2 years. It's good to see you guy's again. I sure missed it but the wife's cancer had way more priority. Looking foward to getting the boat wet this go around. Take care, Robbie

Good day guys ..................and my apologies for resurrecting a year old thread.

Anyway, I recently acquired the REK lower leg outboard from Ray Fuller and was wondering if you guys have any guidelines on a preliminary setup for the Top Speed 3?
As a starting point, do I mount the REK's driveshaft to be as level with the bottom of the  sponson?
I tried positioning that way, but there's only 1/2" between the REk's control horn and the transom of the TS3. If I hike up the position of the REK outboard to clear the TS3's transom, the REK's driveshaft would be level with the top of the tunnel and and not the bottom of the sponson.

Any ideas?

The REK came with 4 angle mounting plates and I also got the Dubro 3.5 adjustable outboard motor mount.

I had to cut down the transom on my TS2 to clear the linkages.

As mentioned above, you would want to decrease the height of the transom to clear the linkages. You can refer to the [link=http://www.radiocontrolinfo.com/ElectricBuild/tunnel.html]Tunnel Page[/link] for specifics on the setup.

Thanks Fast guy and Ryan - I appreciate the replies.

Thats actually what I feared - trimming down the transom. But it could also open up some options as the enclosed transom of the TS3 is 6.5" x 2.5" - lots of room in there.
If I trim the top portion of the transom and replace the top with a removable fiberglass or wood cover, would it be okay to place the steering servo inside so the steering linkages will be short?
Im envisioning something like just the servo arm or disc is exposed, while the servo itself is under the cover.

REK and Dubro

The stock REK transom mount provides about 1/2" distance between the REK's steering horns to the transom. Swapping the REK stock mount with the Dubro 3.5 adjustable outboard motor mount moves the REK back with 1" clearance from the transom - which I prefer actually.
The Dubro's transom mount is also bigger than the stock transom mounting plate of REK which results to a wider grip/mount to the transom. But the Dubro's biggest advantage is the ease of adjustability to make a positive or negative angle by just adjusting a single screw.
With the stock REK mount, you need to remove the whole mount from the transom and add the included angle plates.

Use the Dubro as you've already notesd the advantages.

I would also make certain all the electronics are in a radio box of some sort with a tape down hatch.

Once I cut off the top portion of the rear transom - basically the whole center section will serve as a radio box.

As another starting point, could anyone suggest the possible orientation of the electronics?

It varies quite significantly. I have done the following layouts from rear to front:

ESC, LiPo, Servo, Rx
Servo, ESC, LiPo, Rx

Should I be concerned about water (not salt water) gettign in themotor?!
I recently got a Leopard 3660 on my tunnel and it had holes both front end bac kend. Probably made for car aplications.
Until now I put atape to seal it off, but still some water got inside.
What ar eyou guys using to prevent rusting?
Should I spray half a can of WD40 in it after each run?!

Getting going with FE F1 Tunnels - definitely feel that ELECTRIC is the future for most all rc Sport !

One of our runs converting our YPC 33" 7.5cc Nitro hull to an Electric - nice size boat with good racing speed to build up a good class
