Picking up a use Outlaw, do you think the newer Magnum .25 XLS will fly it? That's the only engine in the .25-.36 size I have laying around (Open B Combat engine). If not, I'll look for something in the .32-.35 range. I know this is a speed wing, but do they fly a slow speeds well or drop like a rock? DG

The .25 on a pipe with a 8x6 or 8x7 will fly it nicely. It's what Jerry designed it for and also what the Extreme site says.

Ok, picked up the Outlaw. Next question, it's missing the alum piece that hangs off the motor mount to protect the needle valve and rudder servo. It has a Spektrum 6000 rudder servo and it hangs down (looks like it would break in a landing). What do you suggest as a replacement for the alum piece? Anyone else get creative with protecting the valve and servo? Still looking for a .32 or.36 engine, but will start with the Magnum 25 XLS , just weighed it and it's 335g with the stock muffler, 237g w/o muffler, will start out with a 9x4 or 8x6 APC, should turn about 14-15k rpms on the ground since it's broke it. If I add the mousse can pipe I might pickup 1-2k? DG

If I was home I could send you a pic. On the original we usually used non remote needle valves. if we use a newer motor with one we cut it off the backplate and lay it on top of the motor then you don't need the skid. Also on the original the rudder servo was in the body, on my ARF I mounted it across from the throttle servo just like the throttle servo is mounted. I also mounted my elevon servos so the arm exits the bottom like the original.

Start with the 8x6 and yes a mousse can will pick it up a bit or get a full pipe...

Thanks guys for the suggestions, a buddy just offered me his used 40LA but I'm not sure if the size/power would offset the extra weight. I'll have to check the weight of just the 40LA compared to the Mag 25 XLS. I think I need a skid of some sort to at least protect the rudder servo. It's already mounted so I'll try the skid first, if that doesn't work, I'll look into having it come out the top. I'm going to either turn the remote hs needle or take it off and mount it behind the engine on the firewall to get it out of the way. Just ordered the battery and rx, can't wait to get it all mounted and ready to maiden. Thanks, DG

I agree on the LA, but there is a thread a ways back on "OSMod" about a gentelman trying to increase the power of an LA40. I told him not to do it, for obvious reasons, but someone else said you could get great power out of this motor.
I would not try, but to each his own.

Started my own thread before I realized this one was available. Anyway, Outlaw E conversion. Rimfire 25/Flightpower 60/3300 4S/10x6 MAS E prop. Won't be the fastest (maybe 60-65mph) but will have way more thrust than it weighs and will be loads of fun.

Motor installation almost done. Just have to extend the "cowl" sheeting aft from where it ends to the opening for the deck hatch. I'll put a couple holes in that sheeting for air inlet (with scoops) and some outlet holes way back on the hatch.

Decided to get back into the hobby after a few years of abscence.

Figured the Outlaw would be a good way to get some stick time again
And a cheap thrill at that too...

Ordered me a nice piped WEST .36 (rpm version) for power, I think it'll fit the plane and it's intended purposes nicely.
Added a couple of reasonably fast Graupner digital servos...from the vids I've seen, this thing can use some fast servos.

So now I have to wait until the end of the week for my stuff to arrive...if it all gets here on time, I could probably test fly this weekend (hopefully).

I'll add my 0.02 to the thread if I run into anything particular during the assembly...video will probably be posted on Youtube...

Could someone give me some dimensions for the stock tank supplied in the ARF...?

I'm thinking about installing a Bubble Jett tank but I don't know if the ones from my Q500 planes will fit in there...

The bubble jet is a tight fit. You will need to flatten the top of it for the cover to fit.

thx...

Well, not 100% really, my ankle is messed up...and it will only get worse with time unfortunately (massive osteoarthritis)... But I can still hop around a little ;-)

I ordered the Outlaw from 3 different shops that were supposed to have them in stock, but apparently stocks have just about dried up everywhere!
So I gave up on the Outlaw, and ordered me a Mini Velocity from Weston today. Let's hope that one actually shows up (FAST! ). Too bad, since I really had my mind set on an Outlaw...it has that extra dimension with the rudder...

If someone happens to know a shop that still has one...drop me a line ;-)

I "heard" Extreame Flight is going to get another batch, but who know's if/when that will take place. I just re-covered mine in Solartex. Paint is next.

Spent a week with Chris H. @ SEFF. He told me he has about 50 Outlaws coming in the second container due in a few weeks. He told me Outlaw sales have reduce to the point he has not put the resources in to due a full container any time soon. I suggest if you want one of the 50 you contact them to arrange. .02

Got it finished some time ago, and it flies really great. The Rimfire 25 will pull it out of my hand in a vertical launch and it just climbs away. One of the prettiest airplanes I've ever seen in the air and loads of fun to fly. Smooth and graceful.

The 25 on a 4S 3300 is turning a 10x6 MAS E prop at 12,000 RPM on 45A. Good for a little over 70mph and 4+ plus thrust. I have yet to run the pack down to the warning setting on the telemetry, and it flies for a very long time.

I've been using Makus Muller's ecalc with great success. http://www.ecalc.ch/motorcalc_e.htm

His numbers have been so good that every time I complete an application, I send him fifteen bucks.

If you need any help with it, let me know.

That would be a great help.
Tried using it but can't see where it will tell me what motor/ESC/Battery/prop I should be using short of trying a zillion and one different combos till I happen to find the right one.

I must be missing something here...
