Flew mine with the DLE just the other day and still love it.
Yes, it is a heavier very solidly built bird but that does make it more durable and it has excellent flying capabilities and so far I have discovered no bad habits.
The DLE 30 with a 19x8 APC Prop is plenty of power for aerobatics but I can't speak for 3D style flying.
The most experienced Giant Scale Pilot at my Club flew it and thought it flew excellent and would make a good IMAC practice plane for a small investment.

Thanks! The camera is a GoPro Hero... the original recording is in 1080p, but somehow I lost the resolution when I uploaded to youtube (user error no doubt)... anyway those little camera's are great. Here's a link to it.

Did you have to add any weight to balance your Extra? Do you know how much it ended up weighing? I am trying to debate on the DLE 30 or the DLE 55. Thanks.

Just added an ounce or two on the motor box. Using a single 3300mah 2s Lipo just aft of the fuel tank for RX and Ign. power.

Hey .. we may be the only two still flying but I flew my GS Extra today. This is still a fun plane for me to fly. I do mostly IMAC type acrobatics and it is great for that ... not really a 3D plane with the OS 1.60 I'm running.

Great video!! What kind of camera are you using?

Mine isn't flying it is the longest build I have ever had due to a Fuji 24 that refused to idle. I thought I was the only one that still had one when somebody showed up at the field I fly at with one powered by a 40cc gas. Actually mine has never even been on a runway.

Hope you get it in the air soon I find the OS 1.60 is plenty of power for IMAC type acrobatics. I'm running an APC 16x10 prop and this combination gives it good speed and plenty of vertical pull.

Hi Guys,

Anyone still flying this plane? Took mine out today for some nice scale acrobatic flights. Still flies great!

I have one that is new in the box. Working on a Midwest Extra 300xs and then a Goldberg Tiger 60 size. The Soucy is going after the Tiger. All ready have the engine so hopefully it won't be to much longer. I just need to find the time to finish all of these cool planes.

You are one lucky dude to have a Soucy. Totaled mine 2 years ago. Too bad they do not make it anymore.

I've been looking to pick up a spare cowl for this plane, but they are discontinued. Any ideas where to find one?

Thanks,

Carl

Thanks! Looks like they carry a fiberglass cowl for $40 (not painted).

Miki, probably why no one answer you question is because maybe no one has experience with your engine on a three blade prop that read this topic. Try posting in the engine forum.

Plus different airframes handle props differently.

Here is a copy of an email someone sent me about three blade props.

"a general rule to follow is to go 1 inch smaller then the 2 blade prop that your engine runs well with my zdz 40 can swing a 20x10 2 blade for a more scale look on my cesna 182 i used a 18 x 10 majilzik 3 blade (carbon fiber) I hope this helps"

Anyone in driving distance of Detroit Northern suburbs (Pontiac, Lake Orion, Rochester, Warren, etc) interested in purchasing a GP 300S Gene Soucy?

I have one in 99% near mint shape with all good servos, great running DLE 30, Ibec Single Lipo system for RX and Ignition, APC prop, various other upgrades (servo arms, wheels, etc.). No decals installed.
Has about 12 flight max.
All components purchased new by me.
I'd be willing to drive an hour or so to meet for a sale.

If interested, PM me and I will get photos and establish cost/ or make me an offer. Send questions as well.
Ken

I bet that fly's real nice with the dl30. It's too bad Great Planes discontinued that plane just before the light weight 30cc gas engines hit the market. It probably would have sold better now than when it came out.
