The one on the top , the locknut is the tricky one. Once you get it off you can hold the threaded rod and unscrew the bolt from the bottom.
And when you reassemble it dont overtighten the nut, it will bind up the steering.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
I recently purchased a used Volcano SV from a guy. I'm a full on n00b at this stuff so I'm going to ask some silly questions! Nonetheless here's what I got.
Engine Leaks fluid like crazy. So I need to do some sealing. Is there a guide to sealing these VX-18 engines? And where else could I be leaking fluid from? My hoses are all good and so is the tank. It most definitely is coming from the engine. I did make my own gasket for the exhaust manifold so that fixed a lot of my problem.
Annnd when I full out ran this thing into a tree the other day lol I broke one of the teeth off of the Spur Gear. It looks like this thing had been upgraded to a metal Spur Gear. I need to replace it. But it's looking like the only one that I can find is on Redcat's Website. None of the local Hobby R/C places in Indianapolis carry redcat products... Actually I cant even find a redcat dealer within 150 miles. And there's a considerable price difference between the plastic and metal spur. Here are my questions regarding this.
Does the plastic one not hold up?
Is there a third party manufacturer of these? Or a subsitute I could use?
Or is there any way to just full out change the transmission for lets say a Traxxas tranny? Or something that I have more access to parts to?
Like I said I'm a newbie at this stuff so please be gentle. I honestly don't know alot about this thing.

Glow engines are a mess, its just a fact of life.
Check all the bolts on the engine , even the ones under the pull starter.
The gears are cheap enough to have a few on hand , I have not been able to break mine yet but they are not too hard to change if you do.
Metal gears are OK but Idont see that much trouble with the plastic.

Possibly the engine is leaking around the glow plug, mine was loose once and it can create a mess. Also check the metal washer for the plug.
Mail ordering parts is sometimes the best deal, I stocked up onsome itemsjust in case. Take your time when setting the mesh, the plastic spur gear in my opinion holds up very well.

When you put your engine back on, the clutch bell will line up with the spur gear. This needs to be set correctly. For instance,if too tight the spur gear will be shaved bald quickly. It shouldbe easy to pushwithout any grinding sound. There is a video in the Redcat site on how to do this.

ahh, I gotcha. Man after looking around on this forum it looks like there are a lot of cats that aren't too thrilled with the redcat product. What's up with that?

Ithink the opinion is that they are so inexpensive they cant possibly be any good. Ifind them a good value.
They are not made to the same standard of craftsmanship as the higher end brands but they also dont cost as much.
Idare anyone to find a better truck for the same price.

I have had good times with my s30, I'm a park and construction zone basher, not a racer. Honestly , with no experience racing, I believe MY S30 would hold up 45-50 minutes.

The is best for Redcats, serious beating and racing and they wont hold up very long. Backyard Grand Prix , yea its good at that.

Yeah they are great for that. I would like to find a gravel pit or such to bring mine to or something similar. My son has built a bmx track on landwhere he's at and can't wait to try it out with the truck.

depending on the setup it can be setup incorrectly, maybe the low voltage cutoff is set too high?

if it didnt come with a program card you will have to do it thru the esc, if it didnt come with instructions on how to do that you will have to find them online. it can be a little complicated, it works with series of lights and blinks.

1 - have both ESC and Transmitter turned off.
2 - Turn on Transmitter
3 - Hold Set key down (little button on the ESC)
4 - Turn on ESC while holdling down the set key...keep holding it down, you will first flash through about 9 red lights, then one green light..then a two green lights, then three greenlights...right after you count the three flashing greenlights, release the set key.
5 - Now press the set button again. this will put you in the low voltage cut off section. Choose your cuttoff voltage. I set mine to 2.6v.
Once you have it set just turn off the ESC.
