Great Job!!! Forgot what trees looked like. Only thing close to trees, in Arizona, is tall cactus. They don't give much when ya hit em!
Well, your video has calmed me down a lot for preps of the maiden. It is great to see what the sink rate can be like and be prepared for it. I had a dead stick on a byron AT-6 and about 30 feet high before touchdown, she had a magnetic attraction. I could not react fast enough to halt the sink. She bounced hard and survived.
Thanks for taking the time to upload the video!!!!

The other thing is, if the approach doesn't look good, that big Moki will haul her right back up even with full flaps. You don't even have to think twice about it. Good peace of mind to have.

yep, I had an issue with a little to much oil mix on my 60% Cub, with 3W275, I was still breaking the engine in, and cut it to 40 to 1 ratio. I could tell it had a few more RPM and the plugs liked it.

Good to know. That is what I also cut it back to. The exhaust nuts were loose again, as usual, but all else seems ok. I put high temp sealer on them this time.

I have not check my nuts yet, but here is a product We might use to solve the issue. $20 bucks

Here is the second video. It is of our presentation of the Corsair to the crowd, with a wing and engine demo. Prior to start we shared some information about the plane, it's owner, Dominick, and us. I also reveled to the crowd the fact that I fly backwards in that my elevator is reversed. I push forward to go up, and pull back to go down. Been doing it that way for over 40 years and muscle memory is way too ingrained to change.

You may notice the little red and white 'remove before flight' flags. They are attached to pins that we slide into holes we drilled through the struts to prevent them from folding in the event the air bleeds off while parked.
Brian found the flags at Shulman Aviation. Very cool and about the correct size from pictures I have seen of full scale Corsairs.

Here are the replacement hinge parts from Sierra. This is two sets, enough for to Corsairs. You replace only the half of the hinge bolted to the center section. The open area on the top of the hinge allows the top skin of the wing to pivot down into it when the wings move up. No cutout needed with this in place.

Beautiful plane and nice to see the 2nd flight was successful. Watching that initial flight, it was quite annoying to hear some guy in the background laughing when the landing was botched.

You don't need to send back the cylinder? I thought it was said that he was also changing the rod to increase the stroke.

That Moki is AWESOME!!! Is it actually a gasoline powered engine? I wasnt aware that moki had radial "gas" powered engines, although im hardly an expert when it comes to any brand issues. Just a dreamer. I still have only nitro powered planes but love them too! Ivo60

It is a credit to the design from CARF that it can take that bouncing with no structural damage, given it's weight.
BTW, the guy caught laughing at the end is a friend of mine (They all are that were in the tent full you here talking in the back ground), and the ironic thing is, he is probably the most anal about the appearance of his plane. Had that happened to HIS plane, he would likely have blacked out on the spot. You know you would have pal.
We just took her home, fixed her, and flew her successfully the very next week end.

I would not be surprised to see them come out with a 14 cylinder, double bank, 500cc, although it would take an hour to oil it before the days flights.
The most real sounding radials on the market IMO.
They are proud of them.

Thanks for the nice video. Well done. That 1st landing was a real disappointment, but it did teach me a thing or two about her. I don't see that being repeated.

Some more pictures of the aluminum.
The ring around the nose is done now. And here are a couple pictures of how I'm doing the leading edge of the vertical tail. I use tape along the panel line, then apply the aluminum. It can be stuck right over the tape and then cut along it. It is easy to cut along the tape line, where it is not stuck down. No pressure against the surface with the Exacto knife.
I still have the nose of the cowl, the cowl flaps, the canopy frame, and some of the leading edge of the wings to finish, and that will be it for this plane. On to paint.

I am partial to them in these old war birds though.[8D]

I have the plug in version, and it is lighter than your folding wing version, but your advice holds true either way. Simply relax the up elevator and she will stick like glue. I always land on the mains, parallel to the ground. No 3 points for me [8D]. I have about 30 flights on mine and no boo - boos so far. I flew it once when the 25mph winds changed during flight and I had a 90 degree cross wind on landing. I had to make 5 approaches to get it right, but my patience paid off in a good landing. I had almost full right rudder and opposite aileron when she touched down, but it all worked out. You can see the video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXNlFFFLmPA (you'll have to cut and paste this link in your browser). This is a fantastic plane/engine combo.

RE: CARF F4U-1 Corsair build thread
Barry (u2fast) and a couple of friends maidened mine this afternoon. Everything went smoothly (Barry made it look easy). 3W157TS for power, plug-in wing. With a full cockpit and air-operated sliding canopy, it weights 54 lb. No issue with the landing gear, but I am glad I had the modification done anyway. Will post a couple of pictures when I get them.

Happy to here it went so well. Looking forward to some 'media' coverage of the big event.
