Default Help! Something Similar to a Goldberg Tiger 60

I am looking for a low wing sport plane similar to a Goldberg Tiger 60. I am wanting to learn some basic aerobatics and want a plane that can handle wind better than my trainer. I want an ARF and the Tiger 60 isn't available right now in an ARF. Does anyone have any suggestions. I found the Kyosho Calmato 60 Sport and I really like the looks of it better than the Tiger 60 but it's no longer available. I would prefer something in a 60 size because I have an engine in stock, but I am open to idea's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if you can get your hands on these ARF kits:

Model Tec Dragon Lady 60 or
Phoenix Tiger 60

.46 size. Tower has the Great Planes Escapade for under $100....less supersaver discount could be quite cheap and looks like a good low wing sport plane.

Phoenix Tiger 60. Its an almost exact copy. If you are into building, Tower still has the kits

The Great Planes Escapade 60 is very similar to the Tiger 60 (too bad you're not closer, I have one for sale)

Also the H-9 Pulse 60

Thanks guys for the suggestions. The Phoenix Tiger 60 is not available according to tower hobbies. They also said that the Tiger 60 ARF has been discontinued. I have not been able to find a Sig Four Star ARF either. I just started in this hobby abouta year ago and it is amazing how hard it is to come up with some of these planes. I had a Escapade 40 until I crashed it. It was a good flying plane (made a rookie mistake) my only complaint with it was it's on the small side. The Escapade 60 would probably be a lot better but I don't understand why it costs almost twice what the 40 size does. The only planes I have found that resemble the Tiger 60 is a Texas RC Planes - Lone Star 50 with a symmetrical wing, I just don't know anything about this company. Nitro Planes also has the Nitro Models Low Wing Trainer 60 but it has a flat bottom wing and I really don't want that. And I have heard that Nitro Models have some quality issues.

The Texas RC Planes 50 is an excellent plane and very simular to the
Tiger 60 and the company itself is excellent to deal with, I have purchased
a couple of planes from them and found that they go over the top to make
their customers happy, they even payed for the return shipping on a damaged
kit I received on my last order. Give Robert a call, real great guy to do business
with.

I have a escapade 61 and a 40 size too both planes are WELL worth the money.
if I crash my tiger 2 arf I will replace it with a lonestar 50
I have a H9 pulse 40 GREAT quality mine has to be 7-8 years old the escapade's are more fun to fly.
I have seen the phoenix tiger 60 at Singapore hobby what it would cost to ship here is beyond me, I have even emailed Great Planes and asked them to make this plane available since they carry the phoenix line of planes.

The Tiger 60 ARF is a very special RC model . They were discontinued 3 years ago . Tower still lists them as
temporarily out of stock . The kit is still available . I have not found any other model to replace it . I had a
Tiger II ARF but a 72 kz radio glitch killed it recently . I have another Tiger II and will probably build it this winter .
My old Tiger II had an OS FSa 72 in the nose and flew extremely well , a great aerobatic trainer . I built it as a tail
dragger with DuBro main gear , all that was usable after the crash .
The Texas RC Planes 50 ARF is a close copy of a Tiger II and comes with tail dragger and tricycle gear . The wing
looks to be symmetrical , I just checked my kit . I bought it as a backup .

Please ask Tower and Great Planes when the Tiger ARF's will be available again , I already have .

The Tiger 60 was my favorite plane. Itwas an excellent aerobatic trainer. It was the kit versions but I oicked it up already built and initially covered - I finished it to look like the box and installed the radio and engine. I had to sell it a few years ago thanks to feed my family. Maybe that is you best bet. Also, like someone else suggested, the Sig Four Star Sixty has the same wing and flies very similar.

Thanks,
Bob

The Four Star 60 has a semi-symmetrical wing vs the fully symmetrical wing of the Tiger 60. They are both great flying planes in their own way, but they definitely do not fly the same.

Looks like Imay have to build a Tiger 60 if I want one. I have never built a kit before, all my planes have been ARF's but I have only been in the hobby a year now. So maybe it's time to build a plane I guess it would be a good winter project. The Lone Star 50 doesn't look too bad I just wish it was a 60 size but on a plus side it would be the same price as the 60 kit. My LHSdoes have a Sig Four Star 40 Kit in stock, but I was really wanting a 60 size plane and I am really leaning toward the Tiger 60 because of the symmetrical wing.

You can't go wrong building a Tiger 60! You will gain SO much knowledge in one build - and these are skills that will follow you for years to come.

MinnFlyer
Good article. Thanks for the help too. I think for my first kit build I will probably go with the Goldberg Tiger 60. I downloaded the manual and was reading throght it and found it amusing that it calls for 3 rolls of UltraCote Covering considering they are now distributed by Great Planes :-) Iwould have thought that they would have caught this and changed to reflect their products not the competitions.

Rewriting a manual would cost SOOOOOO much that it's not worth it

It needs a few tweaks, new landing gear, dual servos for ailerons but it is a great flying plane. I am on my second one. First died due to a flight battery failure.

http://www.nitroplanes.com/nilosuaetr60.html

I have one, my two brother in laws have one, my brother has one. They just need a few changes and they are good to go. I flew mine with a worn out ASP .61, brother in law flies his with a Magnum .61, brother flies his with a Magnum 91. The one I have now is "E" powered. I use it as a glider tug.

Buzz,
I have looked at that plane from Nitro Planes but it says on the website that it has a flat bottom wing. The Tiger 60 has a symmetrical wing which is what I am looking for. Thanks for the info though.

I still think a GP Escapade 61 arf is about as close as you can get to a tiger 60 arf MinnFlyer did a review here at RCU I have made numerous post's on this plane because I am enjoying mine so much, if they offered it in another color scheme I would buy another because the only real fault I can find in the planes flying is the blue and white covering kinda blend's into the sky a bit.
There is two more arf planes that I can think of that ALMOST fit the bill for what you are looking for however they are 40 sized planes.
LA Racer from world model's $139.00 the last time I looked
BH model's Renegade it has a 60 in. wingspan I think, it is available from hobby people for $ 129.00 ??

It is not really a true flat bottom. More like 1/3 or so. It does fly inverted just fine though.

it does work well as a glider tug. Hauls them up in no time.
