We will get the gear mounted in the wing on BIG HOG #2, install the outer panels on the folding mechanism, and then that will be removed and sent to Mitch for conversion. The gear doors and canopy will remain air operated on #2.

Here are the mains.
Gary, on the second picture of post 295, when gear is deployed (lowered), the threaded rod extends pretty far back. Would that interfere with the main spar?

this worked for mine:
Tight control for sure Sam. Is the servo visible when down?

I also don't like the location shown in the manual for this servo. Behind the cockpit and basically inaccessible after the cockpit is installed. I was going to move it down and into the wing saddle area on #2, so I could get to it and also to move the weight forward. An 8711 weighs 2.5 oz, so if mounted in the rear, it needs about 10 oz in the nose to balance it out.

Yes. Good observation onewing. We are going to drill a hole in the spar about 3/8 in diameter. We all looked at this and feel it is no problem. It will be in the hollow area that the wing tube would be in for the fixed wing version. I'll post some pictures of the installation when we get to it.

Good news is, the jack screw, at it's farthest reach, will be well below the top structure of the bay.

Another good thing about the converted mains is, when these babies are down and locked, they aren't going anywhere till that jack screw turns.

The doors hide it, plus it's even with the pull/pull control arm.

Yes, the doors, I didn't think of the doors hiding it. Cool.

Could you post a link? I'd love to take a look.

I recently subscribed to Model World, a UK magazine, because of all the wonderful GIANT scale planes they build oversees. Very cool stuff.

The Corsair82 is an 82% scale homebuilt Corsair replica. That's replica as in man carrying aircraft rather than a model. Just in case anyone was wondering!

Yea, I figured as much. Check out the 3/4 scale P-40 that comes up when you watch this video. Looks like it's maiden flight. Pretty cool, although not too scale looking.

While we are at it, how about this Spit? Quite the project.

Taking a break from detailing to do some 'surfing'. The chips are still flying.

The electric gear for #2 is almost installed now. Here are some pictures. Note the 1/8" shim under the front of the body. This eliminated any shaving of the underside of the skin above the gear. Only the one side of the housing needed trimmed.

It is an easy thing to remove the electric assembly so the gear can be moved up and down during installation.

Also we will simply use a small drill bit and by hand mark the spar for the little hole to allow the jack screw to go through it.

Brian cut out the gear doors from the oversize piece they give you, and then used that finished size to mark and cut the openings in the wing. Worked well.

BTW, he used a diamond embedded cutting wheel on his Dremel to do the cutting. Worked great on the CF.

More shots of the grinding needed on the gear.

The second picture shows that we did not need to grind the pivot link.

Now for some fun. Here is the first test of our simulated gun flashes. The final LEDs and gun barrels will be about twice this size, although the same little boards will run them as well (three on each side / board). The LED is about half way buried in the barrel, and reflect all over the inside of it. The effect is pretty good. Even this smaller LED is very bright in person.

Imagine some sound and smoke with this.
