The MMP and SCT motor is a sweet setup for a lot of things. Its my favourite.

I can understand why the ESC is not running hot - the MMax pro ESC never does on 3s but the motor shouldn't make much of a difference what ESC is on it . I hope and assume that the SCT and vektor motors are similar enough that heat would be similar between them.
I just bought new tires that will give me a lot more traction so my temperatures should go up. I will post pics when they are mounted. I used HPI scorch rims from the firestorm, they have the same deep offset.

TBJ, thanks for the welcome to RC. I've been in this hobby for about 12 years. And yep, your right, it's a money pit. But I have never had to replace the motor and esc on a RTR truck right out of the box. I'm glad your motor is not getting hot. Is the 130 deg on stock setup?
100% stock, aside from the Traxxas rod ends on the rear shocks where HPI boogered up the stock ones. ThunderbirdJunkie has only and will only run 2S in this truck; it's stupid on 2S, no reason to go 3S. Sidenote: Blitz/Firestorm shock rod ends appear to be the same, and the spring cups are the same.

i upgraded my esc to a mamba max pro and it works great on 3s. i put a 30 tooth gear in it and its really fast. but now my slip clutch keeps backing off and im cutting into my drive shafts and it makes a terriable noise. i need a driveshaft upgrade for the shafts coming out of the gear box.

My esc came in today, Its back together and ready for a run on 2s tonight. When I read the paperwork that came back with the esc I had a good chuckle.

I am running 3s but I am not running the stock ESC or motor.
seems like mmp with sct 3800kv is the sweet spot for a speedy xs on 3s. rob keep us posted on your xs speed runs please
I'd say that combo is a sweet spot for pretty much any 1/10th or similar size RC. It's a beast of a motor and we all know the MMP is a good ESC.

Use some blue loctite on the slipper clutch nut..

Just got back from my first bash, Bravo HPI.

Ran a full 5000mah 2s lipo thru it and temps where 138 on motor and 105 on esc.

This thing is stupid fast and powerful on a good 2s lipo, Dont think I will need to put a 3s in it. Hard to hold it in a straight line due to torque steer. I did 3 back flips no problem on 2s. They must have the reverse set real low as it almost does not move off road in reverse. It does cog abit when taking off. All in all the fastest most powerful little truck on 2s I have ever driven.... Also ran it in some water and it held up fine.

ThunderbirdJunkie got his turnbuckles today. TRA2443 is the proper one for camber links and steering links both. ThunderbirdJunkie needs one more 2443. For the camber links, the balls in the rod ends need to be replaced with the balls that come with TRA1942.

My motor fried on 3 cells, so I pulled the motor only to see the dog bones had wore the slots out on the trans and the diferentials after 10 battery packs. The output shaft on the trans had a lot of slop in it.  Also the slipper clutch adjustment nut was cross threaded from the factory. Needless to say I'm very unhappy with the durability of these parts. The slotted cups for the dog bones need to be hardened are redesighned. Everyone look at yours and I'll bet you will be disappointed to.

Why would anybody pay $150 for something that a ham-fisted hack already demolished?
