Don Smith 1/4 scale Corsair
Well after many servo issues and some extremely hot weather, my finished Don Smith Corsair finally flew. This plane weighs 67lbs, and for the maiden flight, it was be powered by a DA 150 swinging a 32x10 PT prop. The plane flew very well with only one complaint, the engine/prop combo was extremely loud. Two flight were completely for the day, and as you will see in the video, it didn't seem to have any nasty handling qualities. In fact, this plane handled better than the gaint scale Topflight Corsair I owned a few years ago.
Now that the maiden flight is done, I do plan to replace the DA 150 with a radial engine that has been sitting idle for better than a year now.

Bigger flys better.... Just like everybody else, I luv the sound, but just cant justify $4,000 for the engine. Corsairs fly great, I sure miss my 110" and my Ziroli.

Try the link below. The quality of the video unfortunately is not great because it is a copy of the original, but will give you a general idea of how the plane flew.
After the maiden flight, I did install a Moki 250 swinging a Beila 32x18 prop. So far, 5 flights and loving the way it flies.[8D]

BEAUTIFUL job!!! The plane sounds GREAT with that Moki !!!
Hey David, I see you are from Nashville. By chance was the corsair flown at Peeler Park?
The reason I ask is that I was up there flying in a Club 40 pylon race about 2 Saturday's ago. Right at the first few seconds of the video I see a chain link fence in the background that looked familiar,... then at about the end of the video I hear a fullscale airliner coming overhead, maybe setting up to land at Nashville(?)....it all takes me back to Peeler It was my first time to visit that field. NICE people there too!!
Thanks,
John
