Default Wing Rod...CF or Fiberglass arrowshaft?

I see a pushrod kit
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXB901&P=0
that I want to use to reinforce the wings on my big foamie F/A-18. The wing is 44" (almost 4' with missiles)

CF or graphite is not available that is long enough without splicing.

The top speed is not going to be blistering, but I do want the safety of the solid wing.

Will arrowshaft and epoxy in the styrofoam be good? Anyone know?

I have used CF arrow shafts in many of my 90mm EDF's. Hollow alloy as well. If you need longer spars, the alloy shafts will fit over the CF shafts to extend each end. Epoxy works well with EPS but I use PU for EPO. Epoxy will not bond as well as polyurethane type glues to EPO.
Cheers

36" inches centered along the span is plenty for a 48" wing no matter what kind of spar you use== especially if it was designed to fly ok without any spar at all. Most of the in flight bending load force is concentrated at the center.

My biggest concern would be avoiding sticking a spar through the air tunnel.

With mid wing models my spars go through the duct with no adverse effects. Mig 15, F-16, and F-18 all 90mm go through the duct and F86 and L39 do not. Two arrow shafts are plenty strong with my models in the 3.1 to 3.6kg flying weight range.
Cheers

the model is on the order of 8 lbs. 3.4 kilogram or a little more. It's the Jepe Fastfoam F/A-18 legacy Hornet. The ducting is huge, and the wing spar is above the air channel. My original thoughts were, was f/g ok in this instance, or should I use the stronger CF, since the palne is big and heavy, and just foam. There are cutouts in the foam and fuselage for wing rod, none supplied with it. It's an expensive Albatross I've gotten into with a EPS plane. I'm making the best of it.

Your not looking very hard for carbon if you cant find it 48" long. but if you can't find it just center the piece you have, you need the strength in the center section

I have found 3.2mm 1 meter on Towerhobbies. In my opinion 5mm is required. Or use multiple instances of 3.2mm What's your opinion guys? Will the more flexible Glass fiber tube work better? I know that EDF jets are fast, and have stress issues. Foam can flutter quite a bit. Glassing the foam kit is beyond me, and HEAVY. I have neither the ability nor the propensity to attempt glassing the entire fuselage and wing/empennage surfaces. For this model to be safe to fly, It has to be strengthened, it isn't EPO. It's EPS.

I bought from this fellow and found the shafts very strong. Less than $2 each with shipping...

Hi Aces and 8's, Try WWW.RCFOAM.COM. They sell CF spars, etc., in different shapes and sizes. Bob G.
