With the Q60's 2800 peak watts (rated) and a 10s pack, the theoretical peak amp draw is 75.7 amps. I like to have 20% headroom from the peak I believe the equipment can deliver to the rated capacity of the equipment, particularly the ESC that would argue for a 100 amp speed control, HV80 seems a little to close for my personal comfort. In the Castle line that means an Ice2HV120 in the Scorpion line I would probably be comfortable with the Commander3HV90, even though that's a *little* less than 20% headroom.

You will not be disappointed with the Himax motors. I have two of them with approx 300 flightts between them with no issues and more than adequate power for AMA Advanced even with cheap Zippy's.

You also won't need 900mAh Rx packs. Two 350-400mAh packs is plenty.

john fuqua has been flyin them for 2 years in his bm's and i have seen Jason fly it several times in his Envision and integral. This past weekend D3 had a contest at Eglin AFB and had 25mph + winds throughout the weekend. The Fury had more than enough power to get through the winds.

THe Castle ESC rating is conservative, I would not worry about using the 80HV.

Bob is right on for the Rx batteries. We all typically use about 50 ma per flight. I use just one 730 with Tech-Aero regulator/switch.

Your adding unnecessary weight.

Are the Himax210 & Fury motors adequate power for flying Masters in the wind? Reports are that the recommended Torque Motors are a bit marginal for Masters\FAI so I am assuming the Himax\Furys are putting out more power than the Torque, correct?. I want to get the right setup for flying Masters.

Rick,

The Himax definitely has more than the Torque. The Torque isn't bad, but it is right on the limits of what I'd want to fly Masters. The Himax has a little more, but still not in the rhelm of the upper level Hackers, Neus, and Pletty stuff, but certainly more than enough,

Great, thanks. I think I will go with the Himax210. Sounds like a good fit to move from Advanced into Masters with this setup.

Just to be clear, the model is the Himax 6330-210.

How do you guys compare himax 200 with 210? I found the power of 200 is not that great. It can not deliver that punch near the top.

Night and day with the 210, especially paired with the lightweight Falcon carbon prop.

Hey Steve, I've got one of those 200 HIMAX's in the 12 lb. Eclipse, and I beat you one round with it, so there. I don't think they work too good in Masters though.

(From extreme flight's Vanquish 2M page at http://www.extremeflightrc.com/html/2MVanquish.html)
We set one up with JR servos and used 2 3421s for the elevator halves, 2 9411s for the ailerons and an 8411 for the rudder.
I want to put 2S unregulated to my servos, and I want to go with JR, what would y'all think about the following:

Elevators: DS3711HV
Ailerons: DS3711HV
Rudder: DS8911HV

?

Thanks Michael. I'd seen similar threads as well, that's part of why I want to take this path. My biggest concern is I cannot find a real equivalent to the 9411's for the ailerons the 3711 is .11 inch shorter in length from the 9411, it's also considerably narrower and very slightly (0.02") taller than the 9411 will the servo bay accomodate it?

Peter,

I had considered using those HV servos in my Wind 110. They would have fit. Iopted to go with the 9411 because Ihad a pair on-hand. For mounting servos in the wing servo bay, I usually make a 1/8" light ply faceplate that Iglue onto supports in the servo bay, and just drop the servo in to rest on that faceplate. I don't think the 0.02" difference is significant, but if it were, Iwould just add a 1/32 spacer to raise the servo. 1/32" is 0.03125 inches.

This is what Imean. You can add that extra 1/32" if you need to.

thanks Michael! Good points.

Now I just need to find a decently priced source for 3711HVs :-)

By looking at the hardware I found that along the metal plates to adjust the incidence there are also some plywood parts with the same shape as the aluminum ones but that don't have the elongated holes to adjust the incidence. What are these for?
