Default New DLE-55.

Just ran two tanks thru my new VV DLE-55. Runs great! There is a little slack in the rod connector when moving the prop. What is the tolerance?

There is considerable slack at top dead center. You have to judge the slack with the top of the piston at the top of the exhaust port.

We go through this question every time a newbie gets his first gas engine

Mad Max's [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBXFpxWg7vY&feature=related]TDC timing[/link] video shows the top dead center rock that all gas engines have.

Who you calling a newbie? LOL. I rebuilt my DL-50 and all my Saito 4-strokes several times. Can`t say they were done right.ha.But they ran. I looked at a DA-85 that my friend just got back from repair and it had no slack at all from what i felt. But i know that is not a fair comparison. A little is acceptable. Answered my own question. sorry TOM.

If we allow to much tolerance it will explode like the RCU servers,I imagine

Alright, Just finished my 4th tank with it on the plane tied down. I opened both needles about a half a turn to richen it up. Took the h side and went a full turn till it would not go WOT. Then leaned it back till i am running 7800 to 7900 WOT for 1 min. bursts. I now believe it is ready to fly tomorrow. Gonna tune it as i go. When i finish 2 gallons i`m gonna lean it to 7300 to 7400 and let the dogs out, WOT pulls.Sig sundancer. Using Stihl ultra full syn. at 32:1. 22x8 Xoar prop. I hope i am doing this right. Bought my first DL-50 used so i did not do the break`in. Newbie.

Don't tell anyone, but it was ready to fly the moment you had it tuned. Be quiet though, that really is a secret

Rod, bearing, crank, piston tolerance really isn't anythng a user can do much about. The permissable amount is established by the manufacturer in their component selection and machine quality. Essentially, if the engine doesn't come apart it's going to work ok. Obviously, some are tighter than others.

Set it a bit rich and break it in the air.

Jug. i flew it today 4 times. 12 min. each flight approx. On all runs I set the idle when i take off but when i land the engine is running too fast. Came in a little hot and bounced a couple times. On the next flight i dropped my idle trim lower to compensate. Don`t know why it changes. Lean? Also, has a bad mid throttle gurgle. Where i want it to be for my first two gallons. Overall ran great. Good transition to WOT.No hesitation from idle to WOT when jamming the throttle quick. The bad mid miss nicely clears out as you reach WOT. I may lean out the h about half turn.

A second opinion - DON'T set it rich and DO break it in in the air. Gassers are not like glow, the only thing rich will do is create more carbon. Carbon is bad stuff for a gasser. Just follow JediJody's advice on tuning and have fun.

Lean the low speed as lean as you can and still have it throttle up. Make sure engine is fully warmed up or your wasting you time. Lean the top end up untill RPM starts to drop...then richen it a tad...very little to stable-ize top RPM. Go back and check idle again...adjust as needed. Do not get in a habit of punching your throttle wide open when flying all the time. It will cost you a airplane if done at the wrong time....like torque roll on landing and crash. Capt,n

22x8 sounds a bit small for the DLE55...break in prop??

I have a gallon and half burned through mine. Impressive output from this little gassie. Even hardly broken in, the engine's field manners rival my SAP 180. Really easy starting and running with the stock Chinese plug, (surprised me after reading all the stuff about the crappy plugsfrom China) Mine is piped and turning considerable lumber. Break in on 22x12 2 blade and just switched to 21x12 3 blade today. Didn't miss a beat. I suspect it will turn 23x12 after break in is complete.

I have the engine soft mounted. The 3 blade, pipe and soft mount really quiet the beastie well. Can hardly hear the engine at less than full throttle which is exactly what I was intending to do

What kind of plane do you have it on MTK? 23-12 is a hard pull. Post us a picture of the soft mount setup. thanks
