Does Sierra make gear that are a drop in fit for this plane? Thanks, Jerry.

No. I spoke with Sierra, and modifications would be needed. They did say nothing major. I use the robarts.....had them modified to electric. I don't see that the robart gear is heavy duty. It's beefy.....but they use cheap flimsy parts where it is truly needed (i.e. lock mechanism)....

I am also interested in who did the electric conversion. Was it "Down and Locked"? Did you also have the tail wheel retract electrified? and what did it cost? Thanks in advance.

Here is my P-40 picture, FYI.

My Jtec 1040 muffler broke once, the reason is no supporting method at the other side of muffler when engine vibrate, losing screw ...
This time I install the suppprt with high-temp RTV silicone, so far over 20 flight without any problem. FYI.

Does anyone know where or has a New Canopy for this Plane; Tower Hobbies, as well as several other Websites will not have it in stock till the end of November; I ruined mine when CA Glue was spilled on it; the Plane is ready to Fly except for the Canopy, I could mount the ruined Canopy, but it will look like crap and I don’t want to have to remove it when a new one is available; I may just have to wait till November/December to fly this bird; I did put one on Backorder with Tower Hobbies when they become available, but it sure would be nice to fly the plane now that it’s ready to go.

paint it black. use canopy glue or silicone. that way it can easily be removed when the new ones are available. Black looks good.

Got a Canopy coming, a fellow modeler here on RCU isn't building his P-40 for a few months, he's going to send me his, and when mine arrives, I'll send him that one; with any luck and good weather, I should be able to maiden mine next weekend.

I was the design engineer and chief pilot on this project.
Hi Jimkim, I have just received my plane and am concerned about the short length of the wing spar (just short of 1 foot in total length or 6" into each wing half if you prefer), without having to cut my wing open to see what kind of "meat" is holding my wings together is there any info you can give me? The main fear I have is mine is going into air racing here in australia and I don't particularly want my wings to fold on a relatively tight but not gut wrenching turn.
thanks

Ninja....
I have a DA60 with the slimline muffler in mine. I am waiting to finish up but there is gobbs of space in the cowl. In fact I am looking at putting baffles in the cowl to make sure the air goes over the engine not around it.

JimKim and Nitro to burn....
I am planning on flying mine in the USRA war-bird class of pylon racers I sure hope the wing is stout. From discussion at Toledo I was assured that the wings would hold up.
for more info about racing
www.usrainfo.org

Also I was wanting to confirm the scaleness of the full size plane. It is Rudy Frasca's plane at Frasca field only a few miles away from the TF Hq. When I went to their website I was shocked to learn the prototype is in fact shinny and that the plane as supplied is flat so once I get the stickers on I will need to paint it with a gloss cote of paint. The first time I guess that the shinny Mono Cote would have been the better choice in covering.

Thanks for the info... What prop are you planning to run? I want to run a three blade, thinking about a 23-10 three blade.

I am staying with a two blade prop for racing I have two props that I will try they are custom props available from APC.
One is the T6 spec prop and the other is the GT spec prop that are used in USRA racing.
For just sport flying I was thinking about some wood prop. I think, but can only guess the three blade might be too much Dia or pitch.

I have a Mezlik 23-8 on it now and it spins the crap out of it. I was thinking the three blade may tame it down a bit. I guess I'll call DA and get some advice. Thanks though.

You will like the T-6 prop. I've been running one on my T/F Mustang / G-62 for 6 years now. It's been clocked several times over 125mph.(never under) I believe the GT prop is for a 80cc class engine. I have two buddies that put 3W 75s in their stangs with the GT props. They still couldn't pull away from my G-62. HEHE

Kelly,
I am aware that the GT prop is for the 80cc but I want to do some checking between the two, much smaller airframe and I would expect the DA 60 to be a little more powerful than the G-62. I will hook up my eagle tree for some testing to see. Also I can modify the props which can't be done when flown in the classes the props were designed for. It should be interesting.

I checked the APC website but never found the T-6 prop. Is there another reference?

Thanks in advance.

Hey nguys . I'm putting one of these together right now. Did anyone have any trouble with the gear retraction ? The gear wont retract into the wheel wells on mine . It was built per instructions and the gear is in the correct position. They just wont retract into the wells. The tires hit The front of the wells. The gear are back as far as they will go and they are the Robart 150's.

Barron,
Mine swings just fine, in fact this was my major test to see what kind of quality they were adding to this product.
Did you epoxy the blocks in already? if not don't until you resolve the issue.....
Are your retracts new or something from another project/crash?
Give us some measurements and I will compare to mine I am almost ready to epoxy the wings together.

Loosen up the allen screw that you would use to adjust toe in, and you should be able to gain a bit of height there, in order to clear the wheel well.
