RE: HPI Racing D8S
"What parts can be upgraded on this RTR..Looks ready for track racing..I am not sure about the F3.5 engine though.. "
I have been paying attention to the D8 and D8 Hara Edition since buying my D8T so I think I can answer this question:
1) The Hara Edition D8 went to a thinner chassis for some flexibility that Hot Bodies claims improves handling. The HPI D8 and original HB D8 had a 4mm chassis and the Hara is a 3mm chassis. So assuming it does work better with some controlled flex, that would be an upgrade.
2) The Hara also includes aluminum spidles, caster blocks, and rear axle carriers.
3) The Hara uses longer shocks in the rear (112mm compared to 97mm stock) and a taller shock tower to makes them work. This gives more rear suspension travel. The "special" shock tower is likely the front or rear from the D8T, whichever one works with the longer shocks and shorter buggy arms.
4) Hara suspension setup sheets should be readily available online.
I don't know if the F3.5 is a good race motor but it is apparently pretty durable in the Savage line.
I don't believe any consumers have a D8S yet. A Main and Tower aren't showing availability until Late Dec or Early Jan.
Hope that helps. God Bless,
TC
