Thanks Rbean,

I'll email the prop info to MAS on Monday and post any info I get from them.

I'm flying th VQ 60 sized Hurricane on electric power now and will be changing it to a DLE-20 when I get a chance to work on it in a week or two. I have the DLE-20 ready to go in it. Currently I'm finishing up a GP Stuka that's getting an NGH 17cc gasser.

It's the start of building season so lots of projects.

Thanks for the prop info.

Joe

Estang

I like the look of that Tiger 60 with the DLE 20 . Have you maidened it yet ?
I see you moved the servos to the tail . How did it balance ?
Does the glass pack fill up with oil and crud quickly ?
I did a search on RC U but didn't come up with anything about your model .
Thanks for the photos .

I fly a Tiger II with an OS FSa 72 and my friend flies a Tiger 60 with an OS FS 91.
They are amazing model aircraft , winter or summer . A gas version would be
over the top .

It wil fill up with crud but not quicky. I used a high temp silicon tube togo between the glass pack and the stock muffler I put a90 deg coper water pipe bend on the mufflerso I could use a streight peice ofhigh temp tube

I used JB wield to "wield" 2 legs on the outer tube so I could bolt it to the side of the fuse.

Yes I did a maiden with the DLE. I used a rubber engine mount and in flight the vebrations broke 2 of the 4 aerlon hinges. I some how managed to land it. I put on Robart pin hinges and replaced the DLE with a Saito FA125.

With the full fuse and tail sheeted, fiber glassed and air brushed, It added a lot more wieght than I was expecting. I had to use about 1 pound of lead and the Saito 125 to ballance it. AUW is just under 12 pounds and the Saito pulls it around with out any problems. Light to moderate winds do not have much of an effect on it. I used 1 1/4 inch stock for the aerlons and elevator and I added an extra 1/2 inch leingth to the rudder.

Here is a link to the build thread.

It was a fun build and just as fun to fly.

I am currently flying a Tiger 60 with a OS 75 AX..It is a great combination...I really like the Tiger and I am going to build another one this winter... I am now thinking about putting a DLE 20 in for power ..How much trouble did you have with the throtle hook up?I have a DLE 20 in my Seagull Spacewalker( also a great combination ) and it is super motor but I was happy to have had the extra room to move the tank a bit because the carb is in the centre of the firewall..The Tiger is quite a bit tighter espially if you want to build it with a built up cowal like I do...I am going to build a Ultra Sport 60 also and wonder if anyone has tried to mount the DLE 20 on one of these? I really like the motor so far but only have maby 3/4 of a gallon of gas thru it...It has been trouble free so far and runs great..It takes a bit of getting used to because it seems like most of the throtle is on the first 1/2 of the stick . I dont think the Tiger 60 needs the extra power but the DLE is sure a lot cheaper to run... I built a little silencer for my DLE too..I used a 1/2 copper plumbing fitting with lots of holes drilled in it . It brought the sound down 4 Db with out a noticible loss in power...

Joespeeder,

I installed a DLE 20 in a VQ 60 size Hurricane. Posted about it earlier in this thread. Worked out great except I had to cut out the cowling for the stock muffler. Here it is with the straight pipe. Too noisey. Had to mount the batteries and Ign. modual all up front to get it to balance.

Bought the DLE 20cc from TH at the beginning of this season. Last week I had a bad crash and need to have some work done on the engine. What are my options?

HAS ANYONE BUILT THE REVOLVER 70 WITH DLE 20 GAS ENGINE. I NEED SOME POINTERS ON HOW TO GET THE ENGINE INSTALLED . IT SEEMS LIKE THE FIREWALL HAS TO BE CUT BACK. ALSO WHAT KIND OF MOUNT DID U USE FOR THE ENGINE. ANY INFOMATION WOULD BE A BIG HELP.

I RECENTLY BUILT AN EXTRA 260 WITH DLE 30 USING  A 18X8 MAS PROP. I BALANCED THE PROP BEFORE INSTALLATION AND IM GETTING REALLY BAD VIBRATION. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON THIS PROBLEM.

Depends on what you did and how comfortable you are at doing your own repairs. I replaced the crank on mine this year not that difficult. Since it's not a warranty repair it's going to cost you no matter where you send it.

Where is the vibration? Low RPM? What plug are you using? If you are using the stock plug try changing to a NGK- CM6 The original plug can be a problem...Is this a brand new motor that has never been run? Or has it been running fine on somthing else? We need more info...

Yep, knew it would be an out of pocket expense but I won't need it till next spring so I thought I would have a repair shop look it over.

Seems to be a tight spot when I manually turn the shaft but shaft doesn't seem to be bent. May be a bearing?

Anyone here to send it to?

OK, so last night I took the engine apart and found that the crankshaft was indeed bent. Ordered another one and a set of bearings (backordered) from TH.

Not as bad as I thought. Pretty simple once I got the Woodruff key out and pushed out the shaft. Front bearing is ok but the rear feels a bit rough.

Joespeeder,
Did you hear anything more about the 16-8-3 from Master Airscrew? Flew the Top Flite P-40 several times this weekend and the DLE 20 gives it the power it needed. I have another DLE 20 in a T/F 60 size Mustang. It started missing and poping. I landed, ran ok on ground. So flew again. After while it started missing again and quit. Luckily I was able to dead stick ok with gear down on the runway. Turned out it was the plug. NKG CM-6. Replaced with new plug and ran great.

Hi RBean,

I emailed them yesterday but no response as of yet. I will try again Thursday if I don't hear anything by then.

I'm curious to see what comes of this. Have you tried any of the Graupner 3 blades ? They have a 16x8x3 also, however, the blades are wider than the MAS props. I think you'd have to get those direct from Graupner USA as Hobbly Lobby no longer carries Graupner.

I'm not sure but I think I remember Graupner G Sonic props come in the 16x8x3 but I don't remember if those can be use on gas motors.

I'll touch back as soon as I have any good info.

Hi, I don't mean to detract from the DLE in it's own dedicated thread, but the NGH 17cc might be an easier install in the Tiger 60.

The graupner is a very efficient 3 blade, your 20 I think will struggle for good rpm with the16/8/3prop, I got 7400 rpm in my (non dle) 20cc engine with the 16/8/3 graupner, it normally is spinning a xoar 176 at 8400.My engine spunthe 16/8/3 no problem but felt it was a to much prop for the engine. The size of the hole pre drilled on this prop is also for some reason huge (12 mm).

The 15/8/3 graupner will produce 12 lb hrust at 7800 on my other20cc (not dle) with only 2 tanks of gas through it, the dle 20may get a few more rpm but I think not muchmore than that., every engine produces power differently though so I could be wrong. The graupner 15/8/3 is also predrilled for a larger crank which causes problems in fitment, I go mine of ebay with a adapter suppied.

Have not flown this prop yet.

No brand war please only trying to help other 20cc gasser engine enthusiasts, these small gassers rock.

I have been flying the DLE on my revolver 70 with a xoar 17 X 6
this plane is the best plane ever!!!
I have been tunning as per instructions but someone at the field told me that my engine is not tune right [>:]
I was thinking if someone can give me tips on adjusting the idle screws, specialy the High needle adjustment!! it is perty scarry to adjust it at full throttle, i can not keep my screw driver in the needle because of vibration.
I tought of tygon tubbing but there is not of space between the to needles

ANY TIPS OF ADJUSTING the needles will be apreciate

thanks

I'm with you.  I just got my Pulse 125 in the air for the first time yesterday.  I just couldn't keep the screw driver on the high needle to make adjustments.  I know it's running crazy rich 'cause it 4strokes at cruise speed.  I was thinking about trying to fit little extensions so I could turn them by hand.

Cer & Nef, Use shrink tubing. It works great!Give it a try. Another way, put shrink tubing on a screwdriver. Pick a screwdriver with a slightly fatter blade, Not wider, and it will fit the needle heads better. Cut the tubing so that it ends up slightly longer and past the end of the blade. There are pictures buried someway in this trhread. Bob

The DLE 20 I have in my P-51 died today. On a WOT strafing run and it suddenly stopped. Got the plane down safely but the engine is totaled!

Th crank pin broke. The bearing cage is still in good shape and rolls smooth on the pin. Over-revving it (probably 9000RPM is what it turns)? Not enough oil? Too lean?

Spinner - Same thing happened to me last summer. No idea why. I believe it's happened to others on this thread (or somewhere I read it). But did your crankcase break, too? Looks that way. That didn't happen in my case. The good news is you're covered under warranty for 2 years.

The bearing cage rolls smoothly on the pin with the rod on it. Not sure what happened. It spins about 8700-8800 RPM on the ground with the 15x10 prop I run on it. I bought it from Tower, so I'll have to wait to see what they say.

I will be contraversial (as always) and say you possibly underpropped and over revved the engine, spinning 8700 to 8800 on the ground with a 15 10, must have been screaming at 10,000 rpm plus when she went pop. Would be interesting to see what size props have been used in the dle 20s that have had crank pins shear.

Yea, maybe 9200-9300 but I don't see it being any where near 10K. There's a video up of it a couple of weeks ago.

These engines unload 800 - 1200 RPM in the air, slippery airframes unload them the most. Verified by onboard telemetry.
