London.. Best out of the box rc boat
Hi all
Firstly newbee to rc boats, but own a few nitro rc and petrol cars.
Ive contemplated purchasing a rc boat for a few years now but getting married last year and baby on the way has set me back a bit. Well after alot of begging to the wife , she has finally decided to allow me to take out some money out of my offsprings uni fund... Lol
I've been looking online at the traxxas spartan, looks like its got balls and it's had a few bad reviews. I like the idea of something ready to run with a few mods, but also something of good quality and gas a bit of Balls. Ie 35-50 miles per hour
I like the idea of the spartan but it seems totally sold out and I'm struggling to find one.
So what can u guys suggest, and I'm also in the predicament as to where in London can I go without upsetting the locals and not to harm any of the local wildlife , so I'm also appealing to u Londoners who go out with your pride and joy,.
I have so many questions and I'm getting excited but I dont want to rush into anything, so any advice would be appreciated.what hobbie shops do u guys use or online suppliers.
Thankyou all who take time to respond and give me advice
Have a good week-end

PLease, stay far, far away from a Spartan. It will go up in flames or sink.
Poor electronics, poorly made PLASTIC hull.
You cannot push a plastic hull passed 40mph and expect it to live very long, specially the crap Traxas put out.

+1 on that.
There are ALOTof better RTR offerings on the market, better made and won't have smoke pouring from it. Spartan sadly has setfe boating back.

Sorry for the blank first response- my iphone doesn't agree with rcuniverse threats.
If you excuse the punn I'm in the same boat- looking for a v.fast ?brushless ARTR boat. I usually fly planes, nitro and brushless, so have experience with starting/caring for nitro and caring for lipo batteries. I have no clue about setting up a boat (rudder and trims) so good to go out the box would be great.
Can anyone recommend a FAST boat, maybe 4cell plus.
Thanks

I think once I part with my cash, finding a location is going to be Difficult.
Last thing I want is a p..d off Chelsea pensioner lobbing her false teeth at me

Couldn't be much further from you! I'm in the middle of no where, inbetween inverness and aberdeen! Unlike Chelsea pensioners the sheep don't complain much (depending on what you do to them!!!). I started with RC cars, got upset at having to wait for ages if/when a part broke. Got in to planes (can make repairs easily) and they are faster. Am thinking of a boat, just for diversity, but it's so easy to get a plane to go 100mph without even trying that I'm afraid it just wont turn me on. Still, am very interested in what is recommended.
Cheers

Well, you should first determine where you are going to run the boat and what are the predominant water conditions.
Heavy Choppy (6 inches plus), normal choppy water (3"), slight ripple 1"-3" or flat conditions?
Heavy chop, deep vee. Normal chop shallow vee, stable catamaran. Flat conditions, anything.
I would suggest a MIss Geico or the newer Mystic but, if you are in really choppy water cats are difficult.
If you have no retrieval boat maybe a self righting boat is best?
Lots of factors, we need to narrow the factors down some.
What run time do you expect at 35-50 mph??
Boats are not the easiest to setup unless you have a specific goal in mind that can make it easier.

Doesn't Allan of Astec have anything; since it is in your backyard? Geico or Impulse 31. Price might scare you but if you buy a hull only and then buy motor-esc , lipos , props, tx/rx, and have to set it up and try and dial it in, best off to buy RTR! We have BBY site but then shipping cost too. The BBY 26-BBY 29 would also a good choice. They would cut chop with ease.

Hi again. Astec Models in UK has various RTR boats that you can consider. The Graupner Systems Cat and several Genesis Cats.

I have an Impulse 31 and love it.
Very nice hardware and power package stock.
You can learn a lot about set up and tuning with it and get pretty good speed with prop changes.
