RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build
Redbiscuits,I make all my own geardoors by laying clear cellophane over the opening stretched tight and then glass right over the top. Let set and cut to shape.

Looking at these rear gear doors from Wylie Warbirds. Does anyone know if they will fit the kit built or just the ARF?

I received an email from Terry at Wylie Warbirds and he informed me that his doors will fit. For $10.00 bucks I think it will be worth it just to buy his, less hassle for me.
I will make my own main gear doors when the time comes.

I thought it may be helpful to establish a list of websites devoted to accessories that are in one spot. Wish I would have thought of that on the first page, too late to go back now and edit without a moderator.
If anyone else knows of something that should be added shoot me a PM.

Working on the gear. It's a tight fit but should work fine. I have to shim up the gear mount on the inboard side to get enough clearance so the lock functions smoothly. I can't see this causing to much of a problem with the gear doors.

I have been working on the rear gear doors today. First I took three pieces of 3/32 bass sheet and laminated them together over the door location. This will serve as my mold. After it set up I cut some formers and glued to the bottom, so it will hold it's shape. I then used Monokote to serve as my part-all and started laying glass. I used 3/4 oz for the first two layers, then 6oz followed by 10oz.
I think it came out pretty well. I will lay me up another part just to have on hand in case of mahem, like me...

HD,
Look back on pg3 of this thread, I posted some pics of TarHeel Hal when I visited the museum. Talk to Richard when you go there, he let me behind the ropes to get my pictures. REAL nice guy!
Yes, this is the giant one I'm building

I know it's been a while since I posted. I have the wings joined and fully sheeted top and bottom. I'm ready to cut off the ailerons and flaps and start completing them. Will post some pics in the next day or two.

The forum has not changed. I do not know if you were reading but we still have the many fellows that do not care if they know what they are talking about.
Some still post and argue with their ignorance instead of using that time to gain knowledge.
Is it not easier to degrade someone than open a book and learn something ?
A recent thread about magazines is very illustrative.
Looking forward to your pictures.

Hey Zor,
This site has been acting so bad lately, I can barely get enough time to read a page or so before it says "server timed out". Anyway those kinda guys don't really bother me too much. I say more building and less RCU pissing contests
As for the wing, I cut off the ailerons and flaps last night, doing a little filling this afternoon, will do some sanding tomorrow. I ordered some G10 (1/16th fiberglass sheet) from a rocket supply place down in Florida (no, not NASA) I plan on using it for the control horns for the flaps and various other uses. The GS is the same as the 60 size kit that I built, the flap horn is diecut 1/32 ply. I will fashion my own from the G-10, should be a little stronger and the hole won't waller out.

Sanding completed on the wing. A little minor filling left to do before glassing, but I will wait until I'm ready to glass. I used a Dremmel tool to do the ribs in the flap area, that worked pretty well.
Ready to glue on the ailerons and flaps leading edge. I will have to wait on the G10 to get here before I can do the flaps. Anyway, It's nice being back on this build. After a nice break from this, I feel refreshed and ready to complete her.

Ailerons shaped to the trailing edge and wing tips ready for shaping. I find it easier to leave the ailerons temporarily attached while doing all the shaping and filling. I'll get a better result in the transition, as compared to the way the instructions read.

HoundDog, I hate when that happens...
My G-10 just showed up, the mailman dropped it by the house. Hope the pictures gives a good idea on how I will use it. I was thinking also that since the top of the wing is almost completed, and the majority of work left will be on the bottom, I should go ahead and glass the top. It will keep from dinging it up too much. Anyone else agree?
