Futaba 8FG Super
Looking for some info on a Futaba 8FG. I just bought this radio decided to try something diffreant this time. After reading the instruction book all through it it says only use the supplied charger. (wall charger) it also says do not hook any other chargers up to the charge port on the radio. What I am looking for is anyone using a field cahrger to charge this radio. I dont want to fry it!

RE: Futaba 8FG Super
I use different chargers to charge the radio, just make sure you are using the correct plug for the radio.
P.S. I use the one for the 12FG (Same as 8FG): http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXSMF3&P=7 to connect it to my regular charger.
Doug.

JR/Spektrum Tx battery pack connectors use a different Polarity than Futaba, for example.
Just be careful that your Charger and Charge Connector are compatible with the Tx you are using.

My 8FG has the 6 cell NiMh and the same warning. I just cut the plug off their wall charger and wired the plug to leads for my field charger (an Accucycle Elite). Set the field charger for 6 cell NiMh and set the charge rate at 200mah (close to the wall plug value as I recall). Has not been a problem.

I have the same charge cord as linked by Doug. I normally charge the radio with an old Ace Digipulse set to 180Ma (2 paralleled outputs), the advantage of using this charger is that the charge is timed at 16 Hrs. then drops to a C/50 trickle. The stock charger also works fine, though you don't want to forgedaboudit and leave it on for days on end
If I run low at the field, I use an FMA Cellpro Multi 4 set at 1C. Only on a "need to" basis.

RE: Futaba 8FG Super
Hi Guys,
I am currently using a Futaba 7c fasst and just ordered a new Futaba 8FG Super. I fly strictly electric sport planes and warbirds. Can anyone tell me (cuz Futaba tech couldn't) if the throttle curve feature works on electric motors. Also Tower hobbies told me that they don't have a charge lead for my cellpro Lab 8. Won't the one for the 12FG work on the 8FG?
Thanks.
Why did Kamikaze pilots war helmets?

RE: Futaba 8FG Super
You'll have to make one for your PowerLab 8. I have made a cord that has banana plugs on one end and an EC-3 on the other. Then I have various types of adapters that end in an EC-3. For my 8FGS's I use the charge cord that was linked above, and an EC-3 to female futaba servo plug to connect the charger. Then you can use the NiMH fast charge/trickle.
I use the PL8 and Multi 4 to charge all my batteries now.

Thought, power inverter? They make some pretty darn small ones now that would work just fine for this. Both my cars have them built in, which makes it pretty darn convenient.

RE: Futaba 8FG Super
Thanks. That is the main feature that I ordered the 8F Super G for. Some of my electrics go into 25% throttle at the first click of the stick. So the normal curve of 25% 50% 75% 100% should correct that right?

Tower Hobbies has a note that that charge plug is only for the 12FG. Are they wrong? Can I use an old charge plug that has banana plugs on one end and the other end has the Futaba plug that would connect directly to the NiMh battery that I now have in my my 7C with that charge lead linked above?

RE: Futaba 8FG Super
On Fridays I mostly fly helis, Saturday's I fly jets (F-16) and some other prop jets, like a jackal or patriot, or some times I fly an Extra 260 or foamies. I get to the park around 6:00am until about 10:00 am.

I will have to agree with the replys I love this radio!! My 11x is collecting dust as well! I have been a big JR fan for sometime and decided to see what Futaba had to offer well the 8FG is a super radio!! If you are looking for a great 8 ch radio this is the one. The touch pad is a little diffreant but once you get the feel for it it is awesome! Radio will do tons of stuff just read the directions close and you can not go wrong.

I also felt it was time for a Futaba again. Earlier I did not like the look of it. But the more I use it the more I like it. The only thing I dislike is the way Gyros are set. Much more complicated than it need to be. At least for one axes gyros.
