Not too bad. Quite warm and no snow yet. But very windy and I think flying seasone is over. Time for a couple of weeks on the Canariens my wife says. Well it is OK this time of the year when no flying is possible. And I could bring my 8FG manual with me. It has 135 pages. Very good in fact except for the gyro part.

Just got my new 8FG Super. Looks great but the battery needs charging. Are they kidding? I have to wait 15 hours for it to charge.

I suggest you give that pack a couple of cycles, that battery is good for about 6 hours of flying time.

You can also remove the battery and use your regular charger.

I don't know but so far the programming is very confusing compared to the 7c.

Night and day.... lots more advanced programing than the 7C and 9C/10C, the 8FG has the same programing as the 12FG, 12Z and 14MZ radios.

one thing for sure, when you learn the 8FG you will see how easy but powerful the programming is compared to the 7C.

P.S. Here's an example.
To create a new model:
Select NEW, press and hold RTN for 1 sec.
Model Type: select Airplane
Wing: Normal, scroll down to wing type and select 1 ail or 2 ail servos.
Then go to Tail and select Normal for one servo or Ailevator for 2 elevator servos, then click YES to confirm then select the frequency you’ll be using 7ch mode or MULT mode.
You are done! All in one screen, less than 2 minutes.

Now you can go and tap LNK and there you can change the servo reverse and also your end points, go to the servo monitor (Servo monitor is your friend!) to see what channels are assigned what.

If you want, go to Markham saturday morning and in 30-60 minutes I can teach you all that you need to know about the 8FG.

That would be great. I'm charging the battery overnite and will play with it tomorrow after work. If still having problems I will take you up on that offer.
Thanks

Just take your time and read the directiuons! This radio is awesome the programming is superb and easy to do once you get the hang of it. I had to charge mine over night as well as soon as I got it. But the duration of a sigle charge is un real! I have gotten about five hours of flying time out of one single charge at the field. I love it!!! did you get the extra receiver for it as well?

Guys-

You can also use Malcom's 8FG notes from this pdf, he did an awsome job putting this notes together.

Thanks,
He did an awesome job. I will try it tonite. By the way i also ordered a screen protector for the radio. Last week someone picked up my radio at the field and left a thumbprint full of CA on the screen of my 7C.

I just bought a Futaba 8fg super, having sold my 6ex. It is SO complicated to quickly set up and get a plane flying compared to the 6ex. NO video support for this model! Very poor marketing. AND....they offer a second receiver for free....which they DID not give me! LOL

Awesome.

I went from never having programmed the 8FG before (just out of the box) to a completely set up complex heli with all flight conditions, gyro and governor set up in just a few hours. At first the 8FG seemed like a real pain in the butt to program but I spent about an hour with the book and radio and it all came together. Get to know the basics early on and it is really quite easy from there. Some things you will just have to experiment with until you get the results you want. Overall it was a positive learning experience for me and I enjoy the radio quite a bit .... enough that I bought a second one.

I've been out of flying for almost 20 years and just came back into the sport. I bought the 8fg having NEVER been around digital radios and programming.  I picked it up pretty quick and really enjoy the features built into these radios. It's awsome what we can do now with these radios.
There was a bit of information overload to start with, but sitting down, reading the manual, and constantly fiddling with the radio I learned it reallty quick.

I got through my first plane, very simple controls but am stuck with setting my countdown timer to start at a few clicks and stop at the down position. It goes on but doesn't shut off.

OK, got thru the first plane and the timer function on the throttle stick. I have flown full scale Cessnas with less capabilities than this radio. It is amazing. Does anyone know how to back up all your model info on the SD card?

A very good idea to do that. Then after backing them up to the card you can transfer the model settings to your computer, you just have to download the Futaba file utility to allow you to create a folder on your PC for the files. This file utility does not allow editing the files, just allows you to store them in a folder.

Finally got my small planes programmed but now I am stuck with a 3 meter Yak with twin aileron servos and elevator servos. I got the ailerons working together and trimming but am stuck getting the 2 elevators to trim together. Any help would be much appreciated.

I do not have the 8FG. On page 35 of the manual it shows the Model Type menu and one of the parameters you can change is Tail Type. I would guess that you could change that parameter to something that approximates Dual Elevator. In earlier Futaba radios, like the 8U and 9C, there was a program called Ailevator, that was used for that purpose. You could dial out the Aileron component. It is referred to as Tailerons, on Jets.

You are exactly right my friend. Ailvator was the answer. No hint of this in the owner's manual. I will be able to fly my 2 meter Yak tomorrow in 25mph. winds.

Thanks
