I completed my Kougar today. The build lasted 3 weeks and I will try an maiden her next week.

I'm relatively new to the Kougar Club so to speak. Purchased one at a swap meet, re-powered it and here we are.
It's by far one of the nicest landing models I own. It will carry the nose forever or so it seems that no amount of elevator will stall it once in ground effect! Hopefully you have flown the model, and know what I mean.
On mine I just added a tuned pipe to the OS 46ax. Just under a safe 15K RPM on a 10x7 I can't wait to put her up again this weekend!

RE: Sig Kougar Build
A buddy of mine gave me an old Kougar kit and I'm not going to do anything with it. I thought I'd post here first to see if anyone is interested before I list it on the for sale thread. Like I said it's old and missing some wood but all the important stuff is there. IE; wing cores, deck, cowel, canopy... Also the Hardware pack is there but no plans. I'd let someone have it for shipping plus a little to get it boxed up. The top box is missing.
Let me know...

For the wing of my new Kougar, I used Samba boards in one piece glued with gorilla glue, in place of the balsa boards, and two servos HS 81

RE: Sig Kougar Build
Just thought I'd throw up a photo of my Kougar restoration. I got it in trade a while back but it was in need of TLC. I have already started cutting the tail to make it a little more sporty. I am planning an O.S. .46AX since that's what was on it, and the cowl is already cut for it. The wings are going to be a hassle as they were cut up pretty good for retracts. However, they were very big and bulky for such a small model. I have since removed them and am filling in the holes with pink foam and guerrilla glue.

Hi !!
I am new to this site and have been flying Kougars since 1987. They are great airplanes!!
I waslooking for some plans to do a balsa built up wing for the Kougar and/or King Cobrainstead of the foam.
A member named" heli_Rod" had some he had drawn up from an older post I found. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you, John

RE: Sig Kougar Build
im about to start building a kougar and have a few questions
has anyone ever made it a taildragger??? im not a fan of trikes, i was thinking about just moving the mounting blocks in front of the cg and useing the wire gear that comes with the kit
what are people glueing their wing sheeting with? would good old elemers white glue work?
i am thinking about useing a magnum .52 for power, i also have an st-51, gms .47 or magnum .46 on other planes i could swap out. what would be the best engine for this plane? (essentially is this plane more fun overpowered?)
i have always failed at mounting canopies, they always crack on me, since this also has a plastic back i want to be careful, how do you mount it without breaking it?
as for weight, with a 50 inch wingspan this is going to land alittle hot, is lightening the plane worth the effort?
thanks

RE: Sig Kougar Build
Greetings,
I want to update my Kougar's Rudder using a push rod. It's the stock setup with wire/wooden dowel, but it's too mushy. Was wondering if anyone has pictures of a different setup... perhaps pull/pull?
Thanks
John

Hello!
I have built a few Kougars, I have always used 3M #77 Spray adhesive to bond the wing sheeting to the foam cores. I have one Kougar I have been flying for almost 20 years and the wings have held up good. You can get the adhesive atWalmart or any Hardware Store. Hope this helps!!

Perhaps easier than building up a new wing would be to plank just the leading and trailing edges of the foam, glue in "cap strips" between the leadng and trailing edges, cut out the foam between the cap strips, and end up with foam ribs capped with balsa. Cover with quality heat shrink film (NOT low temp film). I would also hot wire out a groove for a hardwood dihedral joiner to stifgfen the wing center joint.

RE: Sig Kougar Build
Hello!!
I have dubro laser rods on my elavator and rudder controls.Secure the housing of the control rods to the inside of the fuselage, and where it exits I think it is a Rocket City Brand control rod exit, the housing mounts in it nicely creating a clean exit. I havethis setup on 2 of my Kougars and it works quite well. Hope this helps!

RE: Sig Kougar Build
Just rolled out my Kougar from the hanger for the first time. Power is an Enya 45 and empty weight is 5.4 lbs. My daughter bought it for me for Fathers day last year. I said, you bought it so you get to pick the color. It took a while, but a pink Kougar doesn’t look too bad.

RE: Sig Kougar Build
hi all you kougar fans installing retracts.
I have 2 ace 180 degree retract servos brand new never been used.
the connection arm on these has 3 holes which is suitable for 3 gear retracts
I will try to post pix of these and will let them go for $15.00 each plus shipping
if anyone is interested.
I have a kougar still in box but just found this thread, was going to sell the kit
but after reading some of the post on this model think I will build it.
thanks

The kougar is a great plane it is fast and sleek very responsive, but has great slow flight tendicies. I built mine as an electric and made it a tail dragger. It is one of my favorite planes build it and enjoy.

Saw an airplane that looked and flew like a Kougar at CCRC in High Point NC yesterday. The airplane had been enlarged from a Kobra to 66" wingspan. The weight, wing area and engine size were more like a King Kobra. The wing and turtle deck were built up.
