If someone were to put out a basic T-54/55...with all the variations and upgrades to this tank that parallels our Sherman, it would be like the HL Pz III or Mato Sherman and open up dozens of possibilities for modelling. The T-72 is more dangerous to its crew than to its enemy. Still, a Centurian would be nice [:-]

RE: 1/16 T-72
I'd be interested in a T-72, but only if it can use airsoft. In fact, I'd recommend a turret versatile enough (like HL) to take the Asiatam (or similar) recoil system or the HL airsoft.
For the history buffs, the T-55 and T-72 are a couple of the most prolific tanks in the world. The Soviets exported them like crazy because they were cheap and they worked. In fact, they were the cannon fodder that led the Russian invasion of Georgia not too long ago. Oh, and the Chinese copied them. So, you could work some variants, if you wanted.
Oh, and it's also the best tank the Abrams, Leopard and Challenger have squared off against. Not aware of them taking on any T-80s or newer tanks.

RE: 1/16 T-72
Chief,
Although the T-72 will be a nice addition to the 1/16 arena, and so would any Soviet Line modern era RCTank.
My personal preference is the M60 - Patton series, and the M1 Abrams.
I'd recommend:
Making the base model non revision specific with smaller dollar cost kits that will make the model the revision the hobbiest is looking for, and I strongly recommend strong/durable suspensions, and sliprings for 360 degree turret traverse.
The optional kits would allow you to mass produce a generic tank that (if it is the series people want) can buy with minimal risk management on your part for producing less popular revisions.
Example M60 Patton and M1 Abrams RC Models:
M60 (Base Model) $xxx.xx dollars. (MASSPRODUCE)
Optional kits:
M60A1 (Only produce X number)
M60A2 (only produce X number)
M60A3 (Only produce X number) ****(I would buy this)****
M1 (Base Model) $xxx.xx dollars (MASSPRODUCE)
Optional Kits:
M1A1 (only produce x number) ****(Iwould buy this)****
M1A2 (only produce x number)
M1A2 TUSK (only produce x number)
Then it will be easier for you, and/or your production company to switch gears to produce more of whichever Optional Kits people favor.

RE: 1/16 T-72
If you can send to international and have resonable price. I would like to but T-72 too. I have 1/24 from VSTank and it is very beautiful.
I agree about M60 too, many of my customer ask for this model.
Best Regards,
Jade

Im also very interesting in T-72 in 1/16 scale
Do You plan T-90 too?
Is the HL ZTZ99 lower hull similair to T-72 or not?

RE: 1/16 T-72
I have a lot I want to do. First thing is though I have to survive this cancer. Still I have high hopes that I will be able to produce at least two kits that are what we want and can afford.
First up will be the CENTURION and then the T-72. That is if the stars line up for me.

I am not a religious man, but you got me in your corner crossing my fingers!!!!
If I may ask What cancer?
Hopefully it is of the highly treatable type.
- In reference to your kits -
What company are you working with?

This wasn't a I wish for post. it was to find out if there was an interest in the T-72. There is. We could sit here all year and do I wish. We do that enough now.

Iunderstand, and maybe my examples should have been regarding the T-72. But unfortunately I am not highly versed in the different revisions they had, and therefore stuck with what Iintimately know. IE: The M60 Pattons, and the M1 Abrams'.
But the overall premise remains.
Base Model Kit (NON-REVISIONSPECIFIC). Myself if I was going for quality I would *TRY*to target my price point to land smack dab in the middle ofHeng Longs, and Tamiya's prices.
ThenI would produce kits that upgraded the tank to the different revisions.
Price would be dependant on what was involved in the kit.
Kit A)
Kit B)
Kit C)
Then as the product sells, lets say (Kit B) becomes the most popular. Ican scale back production of Kit A), and KIt C) but not suspend their production. Then Icould ramp up production of the Kit B) to meetthe demand.
Clear as mud?

War,
Those are some great ideas. As far as companies I am working with, it is just me.
Thank you for the input.

RE: 1/16 T-72
Hey WSN,
It all depends on my health. Somethings that did not bother me before are kicking my butt while on Chemo. Acryl Paint, Mold Release, and a few other items make me very ill.
They have found a new tumor on my spine, so that might set me back again.
I am doing as much as I can on all my projects. Motions pictures, models for TV commercials, Three custom builds, two novels, and a History Channel show.
SO I am indeed working on it, but the health has slowed the ole Chief down.

So, do we have an update to report on? Really curious on a home-grown RC tank ... especially one we do not have out yet!!

RE: 1/16 T-72
CNC Machine is a no-go. However we are in talks with a company that will produce the tools, masters and do the injection molding using styrene. However the design of the turret interior will take a bit more time. THe turret does not offer a lot of room to work with. It may require a new elevation and recoil unit design.
I am leaning toward the SLU for electronics, and Nick to make barrels if he wishes to. I have a firm here in SC that is willing to make up the metal hull interior and suspension.
I am looking into a blood centrifuge to use in spin casting metal parts also. ALumilite has a new Hi-Temp RTV that will work for tooling the detail parts. It will be a slow process but I am finding the right people to work with to see it come to light.....I hope.
Does any body have infor on Resin tracks?

Now see , that is the point. No offense to anyone who made other sugestions. We all have models we want.
I was purely thinking of the chiefs health and not trying to make things over complicated more than they are now.

RE: 1/16 T-72
Once upon a time (over 20 years ago) I bought a T-72 kit from some outfit called Special Modellbau or something. the kit was 1/12 scale (?!?) and required a LOT of work. But that was as close as you could get to an RC T-72 at the time. Never did put the the thing together but PLAN to one day.
Yeah I would be VERY interested in a T-72 kit, and put me down for one, too!
Will the gearbox and other mechanics come with YOUR kit?

RE: 1/16 T-72
The T-72 is a menacing looking tank with that low silhouette and long-azz barrel. Don't really care about it's efficiency rating or crew survival.
It's an RC tank and it's Russian.
