Montana 2012 Pylon Racing 424&EF1
Hey, any and all Pylon Racers. Billings, MT BFM will be hosting two proposed 424 and EF1 races for 2012. AMA rules will be enforced and we will be flying a 424 three pylon course for both categories. Proposed dates will be May 26th and September 29th. At this point the May race will not be sanctioned. Racing has just started up here again after many years and we had a fun race last October, 1st 2011 and it went off very well. We have a couple veterans, Earl Seaholm, Leon Elbert, Darrol Cady training and helping the newbee's and volunteers. Awards will be given for first thru third place and fast times for both events. We are considering a third run what you brung category to keep everyone involved, it will be run on a two pole course. We may run that event on Sunday depending on the amount of participation. Expectations should be reasonable as there is a lot of learning going on around here but you can count on meticulous safety. Please stay tuned for updates as time goes by. We are attempting to coordinate races with Helena, MT and Spokane, WA regional events. At this point the dates look good, they are tentitive, and they are subject to change, (due to other possible events and club discretion). Thanks,
Ed Alves

Ed,
Great to see you getting racing going again in the Bigsky country.
Look forward to hitting these races next year.
Though I will admit I'm not nearly as seasoned (salty and tough like jerky) as the veterans Earl, Leon, and Darrol.
Keep up the good work.

Glad to have you there AJ, we may need to have you run a 10X6 prop so you don't whip your Dad, he hates to get beat, LOL. He said you were planning on attending, sure would be appreciative. The first race could be a little rough, Leon's crew is getting a new timer system up and running. The race help is more than willing but as you well know, that stuff is not that easy either. Look forward to having you there. Let anybody that might be interested know they are more than welcome to come help us learn and have some racing fun. Merry Christmas,
Ed

Ed,
I have been looking forward to this! We sure had a blast with you guys over here in Deer Park. Sadly, I am afraid the weekend in may you chose I cannot be there. thats the weekend of the NW regionals in Eugene I beleive. That is my biggest contest of the year, I cant really miss it since I an a judge for scale,, and fly in at least 4 or5 events there.
so I guess I will shoot for the september contest

Sorry about the conflict, hope you make our race for the September contest. By that time we should be mostly up to speed. I personally have never met you, but our buddies from the NW of us in Helena, MT spoke highly of you guys in WA. The guys in Helena have some races scheduled and I was working around their dates. I think their races are on June 2nd and September 1st. Look forward to meeting you down the road, thanks for the interest,

Lee,
Start making plans for a late September trip.
Either way, save a little time for staying with us here in Rapid City on the way. Think I still owe you a couple nights room and board.
On second thought, probably best if don't race in Billings, those Montana boys are mad fast. You'd probably would get lapped.

I'll look into it Lee, I'm working with in the clubs authority, at this point it could be a possibility? Trying to shoe horn it with Spokane, WA and Helena, MT races. I have time to look into it and will be firming things up after the new club leadership takes office. The September race is firm, sanctioning it will be my next pursuit!

Man A.J., you sound just like some big old crusty racer guy from the west end of Billings, LOL!!!!! I'm nostalgic, I was fascinated by going faster and pushing my learning curve, just taught myself to fly last spring. My Dad taught me how to build and fly control line when I was a kid, I flew a Goldberg Gentle lady with a TD .049 power pod when I was 16, that was it for RC. Crashed a Goldberg Eagle on its third flight and hadn't flown again till last spring, 43 now so lots of years have passed. I soon found out about the rich racing history around here and I wondered why? Why not again! The BFM club is such a great facility, I would like to see her returned to her old glory days of racing, combat and pattern contests. Reunite the RC community around here, and get some revenue flowing to help us plan for the future. I've got two young boys, 3 & 2 weeks old and I want them to know RC like your Dad shared with you and your brother. I'm gonna keep on pushing with the BFM's best interests at heart! Thanks again,
Ed

Ok Fella's,
We had our elections tonight, I presented my Billings, MT race dates in new business and they were approved. I know they don't work for everyone but earlier they were provided to Travis Elbert so that I could work around Helena and Spokane race dates, it looks like they are set. So here they are, May 26/27 and September 29/30. I'm hopeful that the second race may be AMA sanctioned. We will have 424, EF1 375' three pylon race course and a run what ya brung open class 450' two pole race course for the May race. The September race will probably be just 424 and EF1 due to the shorter days and possibility of weather. This is still tentative and may change (run what ya brung) depending on participation. There will be awards for first thru third place and fast time for all race catagories. All AMA guide lines will be followed. More details to follow. thanks

Hey Racers,
I confirmed the Helena Race dates, I'm not sure of race details but I believe they will have at the very least an EF1 and 424 Class. The dates are as follows June 2nd-3rd, and September 1st-2nd. Reach out to Leonard or Travis at The Helena Flying Tigers for more details. Thanks,

Hi Ed,
Well the good news is Montana now has the state of the art "Judgeman System" to race with this year. I've just spent the last 2 months building the system with Hank Kauffmann's expertice help. I must say he has really done a top notch job in designing this system. For all you racers out there keep a close watch to our race schedule and come joins us this spring and summer for some racing fun. We race EF1 and 424 Quickie. Billings and Helena both have races scheduled so come join us here in Big Sky Country.

Leonard,
Thanks for the update, appreciate all of your efforts. Talked to Leon last week and it sounds like we have opportunities to improve the overall racing experience. I look at this as a state and regional effort, together as a statewide team we can create a fun and exciting RC racing experience. The benefits to the local and regional RC communities is obvious to me. As always, let me know if you need any help. Hope you started up your bench racing drills, the new racing guys will need to be able to protect themselves against the Vets. Look forward to a fun filled flying season! Thanks!
