I glue brass with solder. Haaa If you are attaching to wood scratch up the brass with like 80 grit and epoxy, you could even wrap in very heavy glass cloth: I have some 7oz or the like

Dick, the cutter will cut up to 3/8 Spruce. Slices through Balsa easily without crushing it. It is really handy.
The Hound is named Chili Dog, she pays more attention to my builds when I build Fokker's! I'm not sure why?

The brass I am gluing is a 9/32 Tube that is th outter guide for the wing bolts. I will scratch it up and use 15 minute epoxy.

I decided to use original Gorilla glue on the Brass. This is my first time to use the original formula, I got it in my Christmas Stocking. The label says that it bonds Metal. For those who have not used it, It comes out of the bottle with the consistency of syrup. After about 20 minutes it had expanded and had a frothy/foamy consistency.

Check the strength of Gorilla glue. Usually its used to fill large areas as it expands: I've used it a few times

I have used it for sheeting a foam wing and for hinging the same foam wing (My Edge 540). Really strong stuff but gluing brass can be tricky. I would think it's ok though.

I would like to know more about this stuff and where it is helpful and where it is detremental. The Brass tubes I glued really do not have any structural forces on them. They are simply guides that the wing bolts go through and I assume they keep the cabin top section from collapsing when the bolts are tightened.

I have some building scrap from the die cut sheets, I will do some non-scientific experimenting with it. Red-Neck Lab style experimenting.

I've used polyurathane glue for years, while not as strong as epoxy, it will still tear balsa when riped off, for your app, I'd say it is O.K.

The stuff does sand pretty easily,I can't say that for epoxy. It might work well filling a spot where the Balsa filler will not stay intact.

Roger, That sounds like a great deal. I have made a verbal agreement with a seller in New Jersey and he is holding one for me until the end of Jan, If for some reason that falls through I will contact you and see if you still have yours.
The one I am purchasing has not been converted to electronic ignition. What company do you recommend for an aftermarket Ignition system?

RE: 1/3 BUSA Super Cub Build
after 10 hours the glue joint using original Gorilla glue held. I tried to break the glue joint with channel locks and the wood broke on the 3/8 spruce spar material and it did not separate at the glue joint.
The lite ply held after just one hour.
One question I do have about this glue is the instrustion say to lightly dampen/mist the wood with water. Does anybody know why? The web site video demonstrates this but does not explain it. I did not wet any of the joints I glued.

Ron,
I believe moisture activates the Gorilla glue. Before capping the bottle after use squeeze the bottle until the glue is at the opening then cap. This keeps moisture out of the bottle and will keep it from drying up on you. I've had that happen.

I have a decision to make concerning the Cabin top. I do not have enough material to span the whole cabin top with the outter wing tube material. I have enough to simply span the two ribs on each side which would work to carry the tube.
But I am thinking that if I ordered more material, by spanning all the way across the Cabin top it would add strength to the structure.
The material is not simply cardboard, it is very stiff, not quite like fiberglass, but some where in between.
I will call Nick Ziroli monday and ask if they sell the outter material without the aluminium tube.

I like the idea of the phenolic tube spanning across the fuselage. That would help keep the fuse top from pulling apart, as you explained.

Considering the full span of the Tube, it is an easy way to add some more strength. I will call Ziroli tomorrow and get another one on the way. Due to the overage needed in the wing and cutting and sanding the material is 6 inches short.

Ron, as you found out, urathane glue is reactive to water, moisting will decrease dry time, but if your not in a hurry, atmospheric humidity is enough to cure the glue. As others have mentioned, slightly dampen one of the gluing surfaces, then assemble. If your alergic to C/A, you don't want this stuff to come in contact with your skin either.

Skypilot, good to know about the skin contact. Thats one aspect of the Gorilla Wood Glue I like, you can wash it off your fingers.

Cabin Top is mostly complete. I left four small sections of sheeting open on the bottom so I can glue in the outter wing tube. The leading edges will get final shaping when the wings are attached.
