Wow.. so I get an email today saying the Vanquish is back in stock. Go to the website when I get home just now and they're sold out already?

I snagged a pair a few hours after getting the e-mail. There may be more in the container than they estimate, so watch carefully and don't snooze when you see an in-stock e-mail.

FWIW, I ordered mine within 2 hours of when I got the e-mail at work on the smartphone.  This was a few months ago when the last batch was in.

Had the number low on the website to keep an eye on inventory.

They are available now.

Container arrived Friday morning.....

by the end of the day, Blair was unconscious in the warehouse... the UPS printer was on fire....
The shop dogs were neglected.... but a whole bunch of airframes were shipped....
any of the ones we just couldn't get to should be sent out Tuesday
(we will be in the office Monday, but UPS nor USPS are open.. so no shipping...)

Thanks for all the support and patience guys!

Yes they did, I know Curtis said that they were sending some out to guys that had them cracked out of the box. Did you contact them about yours being cracked? If you didn't I would email a picture and give Curtis a call this week to see if there are any left.

I was just looking at Savox servos. 5usec deadband is not desirable for pattern flying.

Anyone had any problems fitting futaba 9650 servos in the stabs. I just ordered the servos
And a buddy tells me the he just tried fitting them and the holes are 2mm short lengthwise.

You just need to file the opening up a little bit, then they will drop right in their. hope that answer your question

The holes are actually cut for JR servos. So you have to open them up just slightly for the Futaba ones.

As Jarvis said, just takes a little filing to make them fit,

Metal unless you want incidence = 0. Note that the metal ones have slots for the screws so you can move things up + down in a narrow range, whereas the wood ones have holes, which effectively fixes the incidence.

nice!, i will use the woodie first then.. do not have a incident meter on hand yet..

next question , i will be using a himax 210kv motor and bought a 20.5 x 14 prop. is this a good combo? or a bigger prop ?.. sorry this is my first 2x2 planes and i usually fly gasser

thanks!

20.5x14 should be fine, I like 21x14 but the 1/2" of pitch shouldn't matter.

You are NOT going to want an incidence of 0 (which means a decalage of 0 since the incidence of the stab is 0), you need 0.3-0.6 degrees of incidence or it's not going to fly right, you'll have no lift in straight+level flight.

Like Peter said DO NOT put the incidence at 0 degrees this plane has a symmetrical wing and in order to fly it needs some positive wing incidene, 0.4-0.5 degrees is a good place to start and then fly it and see how the plane handles.

I have approximately 500 flights on 2 Himax 6330-210's with APC 20.5x14 and Falcon (CF) 20.5x14.5 and you will be happy with either, although the Falcon spools up a bit quicker and seems to have a little more thrust, probably because it is lighter (by 2.07 oz [59gr], as I recall) and a little stiffer. I have not used the newer 40 gram Falcon, however.

Use the metal wing adjuster, you also need to take,a small round file, an open-up the slot, because they are to small. An will screw up the thread on the adjuster bolts.
Set the wing at .4 or .5 and the stab at 0, an she will fly very well, but that is just a starting point. But it flys very well with those setting. I'm also using the Himax 210
over Hacker Q-60, the Himax motor has more power. So I hpoe that helps, you will like the Vanquish very more.

okie dokie, i will find some means to measure the incident for the wings. but the rear should be zero right? so the woodies are good there.

The stab incidence adjustment works differently, no need for the wood things (I think they were templates at some point or something). I would not even consider setting up a pattern ship without an incidence meter: http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...e-meter-HAN192, and for most 2M planes, including the Vanquish, you'll want a longer arm:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...gle-pro-HAN194

If you prefer an analog meter, the Robart has a venerable reputation: http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...e-meter-ROB404

A friend of mine and I are working on something we think will revolutionize the process, but not ready to say more yet, in the meantime, these are great, and our system uses the arms and grips of these products.

+1 on the Angle Pro with the long bar as the way to go.  Worked much better for me than the Robart I borrowed from a flying bud.

+1 also on the 210kv Himax with the new Falcon 14.5 x 20.5 CF prop.  Very nice for the price.  Hope I don't ground strike anytime soon LOL.

+1 on fitting the Futaba servos into the stabs.  I went with the BLS version but the case size is the same.  Suggest picking either side and just removing material from one side of the servo bay (fore/aft) to keep it consistent between the stabs.  May help keep pushrods same length.

Back to incidence.  Based on this and other threads at the time I assembled, last fall, I set wings at +0.4 deg and stabs at 0.  Took about 3 times through the process to confirm this (once because this was my first time, twice to check my work, and a third time after a week or two later just to make sure).  The maiden flights were uneventful and I moved the batteries aft about 1/2" to tweak CG to about what others had reported here.  Two expert pattern pilots put four more trim flights on her and we dialed in some minor / expected mixes.  Their advice to me was to leave the wing incidence as set since the model was very close and I have followed that, rather than touching the adjusters again.  Perhaps in the Spring when the new season starts we will take a critical look at this again as maybe north of 0.4 deg is where others are finding success up to 0.5 deg.  At this time, my Vanquish flies better than I do so I have no worries practicing Sportsman for 2012.  A very good outcome for the first 10-12 flights I believe.

Dana,

Are you using the newer 40-gram Falcon, which I read somewhere actually weighs an astonishing 37 grams??

Must be made of fairy wings.

Anybody else used it?
