Default 3 And 4+ Cyl. Engines ?

I would like to save for a war bird . #1 The engine has to be first! I want the perfect sound .
I would like to keep the size small in oder to keep the lower price. But am willing to go to what ever size to hear that sound.
I dont know where to start. Could you please help me?

The 3 cyl engine was a Kolm engine. On just about any video...scrowl down to read comments after vid is played. Yoy can find a lot more data that way. Capt,n

The truth is that there are very few engine choices that provide a realistic engine sound, unless your engine is modeling a four cylinder opposed aircraft engine. The OS Pegasus four-cylinder ideally replicates the sound of Continental or Lycoming flat four, but they are not very loud.

Replicating the sound of a WWII fighter is virtually impossible with commercially available engines.

I have heard some really good sounding P 51 Mustangs that had only a single cyl glow engine. I talked with the owners and they said it was the prop that gave them that neat sound. I do not remember the prop and size of prop. If I had a P51 I would have wrote it down. Total RPM sound in a dive was even a better sound! Capt,n

to hear what the prop adds to the sound or noise depending on your perspectie, checkout the flight of this electric P51 w/ sound

So far (Correct me if I am wrong) It seems to me, to create good sound, It must be a multi cyl. gas 4 stroke engine .
How about Saito 4s gas twins?
Has anyone heard the sound of Saito 4s gas twins? or does it have to be 3+ cyl. to get best sound ?

I know KOLM engines are the talk of the town. But why cant other engine manufactures create a inline 3 cyl. gas 4 stroke? And maybe they do. I just have not found them yet.

I am sure other engine firms are thinking real serious about building a 3 cyl engine like the Kolm, but it may be months away. I bet some prototypes are in the works now. Best Regards, Capt,n

In line tripple 2 stroke gas in a P-51 or 5/7/9 cylinder gas radial in an appropriate plane = no sweeter sound. P-51 far the cheaper solution.
