I am not sure about lights. I like them. My Hawk is begging for lights.....especially in the nose. If I do lights it will be when I am tinkering later on after the actual build is done and I have relaxed a bit. I would love to do a chute at that point also.

Yea, I have the chute and I'm going to do that during the build, but I think I'm going to hold off on the lights for now - I've got too many other projects that need to be done...

Next up is painting the interior of the canopy frame to match the color of the cockpit. This would be a lot easier if the plastic canopy were not already glued to the frame. It took me over two hours to mask this thing. When done, you can spray the inside.
That's neat work Dom, very ballsy! Personally speaking, I can guarantee I would have managed to SOMEHOW get some of the grey paint SOMEWHERE on the canopy glass SOMEHOW! [sm=cry_smile.gif]

Yours looks perfect as usual!

I wish you flew more P-160+ size models, my whole fleet would be your ex-fleet! Keep it up buddy!

Yeah, no kidding. It is a good thing we don't have snow yet. I would never get her done! The snow is coming though. When it does this build will come to a sudden stop!

I got the tracking number from Patty today, looked it up, and it was actually already in Richmond! Made a quick trip out and now it in the back of my Prius!'

I'll unpack it in the next day or two and post some pictures. Then its back in the box until the Panther is ready to fly and the Turbinator is painted...

Bob,

How long did it take from the time you ordered it until you picked it up?

Joe
My original order was processed from BVM on August 8th, so that's about 21 weeks. However, mine was a custom paint job and they made some mistakes on the first go-around which I asked them to fix, and they did, so that took longer. I'd say if you order a stock scheme, it should be around 10-12 weeks - which is what BVM tells you it will take.

My Cockpit is complete! Here you can see I drilled out the pilots Oxygen masks and inserted retract tubing to simulate the hose. I like it! Also note the pilots hand on the stick. I think the cockpit looks great and was worth the effort.

Next I painted the front half of the canopy interior flat black to match the glare shield.

Lets look at the cockpit retaining system I came up with.

You can see I glued in my rear retaining plate. It is painted gray on top and blue on the bottom so everything matches!

Start by inserting the cockpit into the canopy. Now push the cockpit as far forward as it will go. You are not going to engage the front retaining plate but instead push the cockpit over the top of it.

With the cockpit push forward in the canopy, and over the top of the front plate, you have just enough room in the rear to get the cockpit inside the canopy. Note the gap.

Now slide the cockpit under the rear retaining plate and push it as far back as it will go.

Now looking to the front again you can see the gap there. At this point you can engage the lip of the cockpit into the front retaining plate.

Now when you have done that, the front is secured in the retaining plate and the rear is secured in the retaining plate. The front and rear lips on the cockpit tub are sandwiched between the retaining plates and the canopy frame. The cockpit is now snug as can be inside the canopy. It takes seconds to install and remove and there are no screws or any glue! I can remove the cockpit anytime I want to clean the canopy or address any components that may come loose inside. I must say this is the most creative thing i have come up with on this jet so far. I will do all my cockpits this way in the future!!

Here is what it looks like on the jet. The only thing left is to get the names on the side of the canopy...Maj. Woody of course!
